• Ancient city Polonnarawa

    Today we visited the ruins of the ancient city of Polonnarawa, also a UNESCO site. Polonnarawa is the second oldest Sinhalese kingdom in Sri Lanka (2nd capital), which ruled from the 11th century. 3 different king's of over 2-3 centuries saw the city thrive as a commercial and religious centre. There are lots of Buddha statues, many without heads, an amazing sacred quadrangle, walls of the royal palace and stupas.Read more
