    Travelpreparations, more or less...

    February 14 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Finally the first sunny day after a week of rain and cold. We managed to get our hands on free tickets for the Alhambra. Something that has been on the Granada list for a long time. Usually it's 30€ for foreigners, but I become Jacob Rojas with a German and Chilean Citizenship, and with that a free entrance by a friend of a friend. It's a spectacular building and really worth a visit. If you want to see everything at once it takes at least a whole afternoon. After a cafecito we try to find a place for a beer and tapas in the city. Since it's valentinesday and the first sunny day in a while, it's quite difficult. But of course after some searching we find a nice place and enjoy some beers in the sun.Read more

  • Welcome to the sun

    February 16 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

We arrive at 11pm at the airport, pick up the rental and drive to a nearby airbnb. It's an instantaneous sensation to be warm at night only with a tshirt. The village of the first night looks like a desert with no plants so we head to our stay in the green north west. On the way there we get to see the Teide volcano, the highest mountain of Spain with 3750m. The drive has a great scenery and looks like Hawai (at least how we imagine hawaii because we've never been there). After a siesta we take a walk to the next village and find some natural swimming pools to take a quick dip. We share the swimming pools with some sea urchins. After that we enjoy the sunset with a wine and observe the "locals". European pensioners that are suspiciously white.Read more

  • Volcanoes!

    February 17 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Obviously, when in tenerife there must be some volcanoes. We find a nice trekking of 20km with various volcanoes and great landscapes. The way there proves to be quite an adventure. I haven't seen such a steep road in a long time. But in the first gear even our Hyundai rental can do it. The nature is really impressive. The trekking is really beautiful and we seem so confident that we had to help 2 couples to find the way. The sun is scorching at midday with around 30° so we take a small siesta in the shadow. Restrengthened we continue our way and finish the hike. Of course an ice cream cannot be missed. On the way back to the airbnb we check out a truly impressive viewpoint with a sunset at the coast.Read more

  • Recovery Trecking

    February 18 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Today's plan is a chill trekking so that we can relax a bit for tomorrow. We drive up the mountain with the car, fight for a parking spot and start our hike. Almost only downhill trough forest and beautiful mountains which remind me of Columbia. With an average heat of 31°C quite intense. Almost everyone is German which isn't a problem until they greet you with Holan! Are you from here ? to the people that are not as white as them. Trough beautiful landscapes we continue to the ocean. After 4 hours im the sun we are very happy to find swimming pools with water from the ocean. To help with the waiting for the bus we get an ice cream and beer until we catch the last bus to the parking. We arrive to the parking just in time to find the volcano el teide in a beautiful sunset.Read more

  • El Teide! At least from a distance

    February 19 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Today is the big day! We find some permits and start our climb with a lot of water and snacks. With a nice rhythm we reach the first checkpoint where they check the permits. But since some days they want to see crampons and ice axe for everyone since there were a lot of accidents recently and there are 2 ice field to cross. Obviously we didn't bring ice gear to Tenerife so we try to talk our way around but without success. On a nearby viewpoint we take a devastated break, eat some snacks and take a siesta. So what to do if there is no plan B ? Make one!
I check the map and find some nice looking roads that should have a great view and a sand beach at the end. The road are indeed beautiful and once again tenerife surprises with astonishing landscapes. After some discussions in a cafe if we can get churros at 5.10 although they start serving them at 5.15 (in the end we had to wait 5 minutes), we buy 2 beers hoping to get to the beach in time. With quite a few foto stops we get to race a local down the mountains for the sunset, great fun! At the beach we drink a beer and take a quick dip in the warm water, a great way to end the day!

  • Exploring the island

    February 20 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Our flight to Spain is in the evening. So we use the time to explore some parts of the island. We find a lot of small curvy roads and tourists that don't know how to drive. Still truly beautiful and impressive. At a volcanic beach we take a small siesta and get an ice cream before heading to the airport. We arrive to malaga at midnight so there no more buses. We sleep on couches in the airport and get the first bus to granada. A breakfast of toastada and cafecito cannot be missed for a total of 9 euros for 2 people.Read more
