  • NYC - Central Park

    8. Mai 2019 in den USA ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Today, we did a lot of walking!!! 26,000 steps according to my watch.
We walked from our hotel at Time Square to Central Park and did a walking tour around the park for 2 hours. The park is just beautiful!!!! No flowers really around yet, but so much greenery, it’s so pretty.
The sun was shining, a beautiful day. We went to the boathouse and row row rowed the boats along the lake which was pretty fun, although Sarah almost took out a turtle with the paddle at one point.
Some more walking to see the Alice in Wonderland statue and a ride on the carousel. Then we rented some bikes to do a lap through the park. Halfway round we were done hahaha sore legs and it was warming up. But we made it back!!
Off to Tiffany’s to treat ourselves because we deserve it!!!
By this time it’s nearly 3:30 so we decide we’d better eat some lunch - a quick sandwich which was a delicious find.
A stage door tour at Radio City Music Hall is up next. This was magnificent. It’s one of the largest theatres in the world and has held the Tony & Grammys awards over the years and is home to the Rockettes and we even got to meet one of them.
Afternoon tea at Magnolias Bakery hit the spot before we headed back to the hotel.

Last stop of the night is the St James Theatre for three Frozen musical!!!!! And it was awesome!!!!! We had frozen themed cocktails and yes dad a souvenir cup 😂
It had songs from the movie plus some new ones, we didn’t like the fact that Olaf was basically a big ass puppet controlled by someone on stage with their hand in his head who did all the talking.....
But when they made it snow at the end it was just magical and so Disney!! 🥰

  • NYC - more walking

    9. Mai 2019 in den USA ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

So our stay in NYC has featured lots and lots of walking. It’s the easiest way to get anywhere that’s not miles away and we’ve done pretty well navigated around the city. Although, no one pays attention to what colour the traffic lights and walk signals are, everyone pretty much seems to go whenever they feel like it. We’ll master it by our last day here - at least we are looking the correct way now when crossing the road.

Our morning starts at the Top of the Rock - Rockefeller Centre. Amazing views of the city from above.
Fao Schwarz, the toy store, up next. We had a bit of fun here looking at all the toys and then we found the ‘Grand Piano’ on the floor like from the movie BIG and we had to have a go!!
Grand Central station next on the list, so more walking - courtney we felt like we were Serena when she first arrived in Gossip Girl 😂 The main area is beautiful with the high ceiling. Such a busy place!
From here we managed to get a ticket and hop on the subway down to Battery Park and from here a ferry to the Statue of Liberty. Today’s weather was a change from yesterday - sunny and warm to grey, windy and cold!!! We had pretty views of the skyline here as we headed across to the Liberty Island. Once we disembarked we made our way up the Pedestal which is the grey bit underneath the statue - the base of it. We were hoping to go up the crown of the statue but it was booked out until September - if we had of known we could have booked earlier but oh well. After a look theough the museum, which was okay but missing all the statues and most things behind glass cases, and 195 steps we made it!! So glad we did it, we had nice once again and got some selfies with the lady herself!
Some nice blue water surrounding would have made it better, looks like the George’s River. After some more photos and a lap around the Island we grabbed some lunch. Back onto the ferry to head to Ellis Island - where the immigration centre is. It was pretty cool to see but was a bit over it all by this point, dozing off in one of the movie presentations..whoops!!
Caught the ferry back to New York side and then made our way to the ticket place to grab some cheap tickets for a show. We watched Waitress - I would never have picked it but Sarah liked the look of the posters we had seen around. We didn’t know what to expect or what it was really about and it worked in our favour!! it was a great show!! 👌🏼

  • 9/11

    10. Mai 2019 in den USA ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Visiting the 9/11 Memorial was up next which involved another trip on the subway which we seemed to have mastered - only a short distance but still, we got on the right line!!
A beautiful memorial, very peaceful and quiet place. The museum is fantastic and a must visit! You could actually spend all day in there - I think we spent about 3 hoursWeiterlesen

  • Empire State Building

    10. Mai 2019 in den USA ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

For dinner we headed to TGIFridays. Had a nice cocktail, tacos and loaded potato skins. We did some more walking.........off to the Empire State Building!
The view at night was AMAZING! So pretty with all the lights 🤩 It was pretty windy and we thought we might get blown over the edge.
After spending some time here, we headed back down and to The Australian bar for a couple of drinks

  • Gossip Girl Tour

    10. Mai 2019 in den USA ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Today we got to sleep in a bit with our Gossip Girl Tour not starting until 10. We planned to eat breakfast at the hotel but we hit snooze a few times and ended up with a maccas breakfast on the run after snapping a few pics on those red stairs in Time Square.
Met at the Palace Hotel - the home of Serena. Then off to see the places where the high school scenes are filmed. Dylan’s Candy Store next for some sugary goodness. Off to get our picture in front of the MET, famous steps in the show. Next, the Empire Hotel, home of Chuck Bass which involved me running 2 blocks to get a photo with a red sign above the hotel that you always see in the show!! Our tour finished off at Grand Central Station!

  • Last day in NYC

    11. Mai 2019 in den USA ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

    Our last day in NYC!!!!
Started off with a walk to Madison Square Garden Arena for a behind the scenes tour. We didn’t really know what we would get to see initially but it was soooo good! Our tour guide was awesome, we got to see some cool stuff and the arena itself is pretty damn impressive.
They have a lot of memorabilia all around the stadium - boxing, basketball, ice hockey - from famous games and events they’ve held! They also have a timeline of pictures running around one of the levels of big events that have happened on each day of the year, over the years!
We got to go into the Lexus Suites and sit on the comfy seats and see how the rich people do it.....maybe one day!
Off to the Bridge Level which is were the all the media people sit during the games and it was pretty awesome! Great views. There are tables along the front, each equipped with a screen, headphones and charging station. We got to do a virtual reality thing - as if we were attending a basketball game, ice hockey game and billy Joel concert which was fun! Billy Joel comes every month to do a show and always sells out!
We then got to check out the view form the arena floor. Whilst we were there, there was a group of people trying the break the world record for something associated with foam rolling 🤔
Next were the dressing rooms and they’re pretty damn fancy.

Shake Shack for lunch for some awesome burgers

And then off to the Intrepid museum which had a war ship and aircraft and that was cool to see. They also had some interactive stuff so we played along with the little kids 😂

We watched Means Girls the musical - it was okay. They made it more modern which was good but it wasn’t as good as the other two shows we had seen. Off to the retro nightclub for some dancing which ended with a walk home in the rain ☔️

  • Travelling to Nashville

    12. Mai 2019 in den USA ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Seemed like a good day to leave NYC because it was raining when we left for the airport. We had to fly to Chicago and connect to Orlando from there so we were a bit nervous about our bags because you hear bad stories.
We flew out of Newark Airport on New Jersey side. It was pretty damn big and there were iPads on all the tables. You could order food and drinks from them and try had all these games you could play - also charging points everywhere which was great!
Our bags did arrive so all was well 😌

Time for a nap and then we were off to Broadway! A strip of bars all playing loud, live music! Very busy streets with lots of neon signs everywhere. It almost felt like Vegas without the gambling!!

Great night - had good burgers for dinner and then made our way along the street and spent some time in a few different bars! Almost might be converted 😂

  • Nashville Day 2

    12. Mai 2019 in den USA ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

We visited the country musical hall of game museum. It was interesting, probably would have enjoyed it more if i knew more country artists but it was good
Also went to the Johnny Cash museum which was really good. Lots of music to listen to and videos to watch as well as lots and lots of memorabilia. It was fantastic!!!! A definite must see i thought.
Great steak for lunch, more live music!
Did some souvenir shopping and an Uber trip to Ross for a suitcase! We were pretty much on our limit with 3 bags so Sarah bought a new bag in preparation for Disney. She didn’t think she/we would need another bag so couldn’t believe it. I on the other hand knew it was definitely coming 😂

We rode some electric scooters down to town! You use Uber to rent them for 15c/minute and can just pick up and leave them along the street anywhere. Once we got the app to work, the bloody scooter wouldn’t work. So we walked down the street to find some more and finally had some luck. They went faster then I thought, a lot of fun and laughs.
Same night as last night. Dinner, drinks & music!

From a place I never had on my list of must sees, I didn’t know what to expect. I had a fantastic time and would definitely go back!!
