    In 1777 Morocco was the first country to recognize American independence. In 1821 the Sultan of Morocco gave the US a building in the Médina of Tangier—the Legation. As America’s oldest diplomatic property, the Legation stands as the only US Historic Landmark overseas.
    Today, the Legation houses TALIM , a museum outlining the history of Moroccoan-American diplomatic and cultural relations.
