Jakarta

Jakarta, the capital and largest city of
Indonesia. Originally a trading port of the
Kingdom of Sunda in the fourth century,
Jakarta caught the attention of the Dutch
and became their colonial capital, known as
Batavia, during the 17th and 18th centuries.
When Indonesia declared its independence in
1945, Jakarta re-emerged as the symbol of both
