Nelson is a town that we have both heard about for years. Amy's work has an office located there and over the years she has become close friends with her Nelson co-workers. Nelson is the kind of town that you could easily picture yourself living in. Fun fact: Nelson has more eateries per capita than Manhattan. The downtown has an eclectic mix of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and funky shops. We started our journey at Empire Coffee shop which is owned by Rob who we were camping with. We tried the massive muffins and breakfast sandwiches which were highly recommended!
From there we strolled down to the water and walked the lakeside trail. We were lucky enough to catch the historic trolley back downtown. We made a quick stop at the Verecan office and then headed out of town to Ainsworth hot springs. We made a quick stop at Kokanee Creek nature park to check our a Salmon spawning channel. There were over 2000 fish in the channel!
Ainsworth springs may have been the coolest springs we have seen yet. There are caves that you can swim through!!
After our hot and cold swims we headed back to Nelson to have dinner with Ainsley at the Main Street Diner. The diner boasts the best fries in town but Weston said he much prefers the frozen variety. We ended our night with another sweet treat at a local ice creamery and made our way over the Bonanza Mountain pass back to Christina Lake.
