I think it goes without saying that after 2.5 months without seeing the ocean this east coast maritime family was excited to see the ocean again! We were staying at Fort Stevens State Park which is home to a 100 year old ship wreck, pristine beaches, dunes and an old military fort. Lots to see in our 3 days here. First chance we got we headed to the beach to dip our toes in the water again. Toes would be the only thing we would be dipping...brrrr! The beach had lots of sand dollars for collecting! We didn't want all the beach fun to end so we drove Phil out to the beach and had a campfire on the sand!
A trip to the Oregon coast wouldn't be complete without a trip to Cannon Beach (so we were told)! Ecola State Park had spectacular views of the Cannon Beach coast line and had a charm all of its own! We didn't find any sand dollars there but we ventured up the cliffs to the park's most popular hike. After our beach explorations we headed into the town of Cannon Beach for some local salt water taffy and dinner...yes, in that order! We ended our evening with a beach walk to check out Haystack rock. An impressive MASSIVE rock that forms the landscape for the area.Read more
