    Paine Massif
    Waterfall near Pingo RiverWild cows and bulls live in the park having escaped in the past from the stations.Grey Glacier - not much compared to what we have seen!

    Pingo River/Grey Glacier Lookout

    After French Valley I opted for an easier day hike with Jane along the Pingo River and then back to the Grey Glacier lookout. Still a 15 km walk but not a lot of elevation.
    I have put some pictures of the Paine Massif here that we took early in the morning to show the various areas we have (will) been to. Interestingly the Paine Massif is not connected to the Andes (they are just across the road on the left!) - it is 15 million years old whilst the The Andes are 65 million years old. So it was an extrusion uplift that was then shaped by it's own glaciers in the past - what is is striking is the black metamorphic rock sitting on top of the lighter shaded granite.Læs mere
