Fort Moultrie

Fort Moultrie, built to protect Charleston from the British, was the other stop today. The fort has seen service from the American Revolution through World War II. It also houses the grave of Osceola and General Moultrie, for whom the fort was later named.

There's a nice WW II exhibit in the underground bunker, and a couple examples of old guns. Part of the exhibit was underwater, about mid-calf high in places, so we gave that a pass. The enlisted men's barracks, of course. Officers must have been on higher, dry ground.Read more
