    The little town of Chaitén got even smaller after the erruption of the Volcán Chaitén, spreading a thick layer of ashes over the town, its surroundings and the Parque Pumalín. It was decided by the state to abandon the town. The people residted and rebuilt the town without running water and running on generators. In 2011 the government reversed its decision.
