    Breakfasted at Honest Greens. Granola, yogurt, and berries with chai latte with the Godesses (Anu, April, Christine, and me).
    ... although Cynthia has dubbed us the Vegan Power Crew 🤣🤣
    Met up with the Lisbon WOW peeps in the park (Jardim do Príncipe Real) for storytelling and composition.
    Explored the artisans' pop-ups and farmers' markets at the park.
    Got soap, tiles, sketchbooks, early Portuguese readers, illustrated recipe postcards, and chocolate cake.
    Used the recessed (below!!) WC.
    Was so hungry, I stopped and got a pastel de nata.    Leia mais

    Stopped by our spot to drop off purchases before going out to lunch at Pequeno, a neighborhood cafe.
    Was so beat from yesterday's excitement that we chose to rest instead of doing more.
    Napped and got to talk deep and real. ❤️

    Tough choices today, pt 1 of 2

    Anu and I had to make tough choices today:

    Do we go to our Lisbon WOW class? Or meet up with Lisbon Sketchers? We chose to broaden our circle and meet a whole bunch of international urban sketchers (including Portuguese 🤣) at Jardim da Estrela. Lots of existentialism with a side order of smoking for some 🥸 🚬. Wow. What a quintessential European experience for this American.

    Do we walk or Bolt to lunch on the way to the National Azulejos (tiles) museum? Bolt it was, and I had my SECOND full conversation in Português, with José our driver. 🎉🎉🎉 My cold is working its way through all the stages, and I was explaining why I was masking. 😷 He immediately masked up, and we continued on with our lively convo.

    Do I have vegan Himilayan momos for lunch? Or beyond burger? Yup. Such a hometown girl.

    Do we go to the fado dinner? Or rest up at home? It was hard to miss the fado performances, but, really, it seemed smarter to isolate (sorta) and rest. Can't wait to hear the report tomorrow from the WOWsters who went to fado.

    So dinner was a protein ball from Honest.Greens that I had packed for "just in case" today.

    It was NOT a hard choice of how to paint the vibrant afternoon view from our kitchen table. (See the next post for the sketches.) ☺️🧡💛💚💙☺️    Leia mais

    Sketches from the last 2 days

    I realized that I hadn't posted my last few sketches from the last two days in Lisbon, so here they are.

    1. My "blob" sketch of Castelo de São Jorge from Jardim do Príncipe Real.

    2. Sketches of our CUTE CUTE CUTE guide on our boat tour of Lisboa from the Tejo River - along with the backs of lots of heads of fellow passengers!

    3. Ponte do 25 de Avril. Made by San Fran's Golden Gate folks and named to commemorate the Carnation Revolution that overthrew the dictator Salazar 50 years ago.

    4. The Monument of the Discoveries. Vasco da Gama and others are commemorated here. Their difficult history of colonization and enslavement is not forgotten.

    Homeward bound

    Up at 4:45am, taxi with Alex by 6am
    Lisbon airport's motto: Seek, and ye shall find
    British Airways opened at 9:05am for an 11:05am flight
    Slept on flight to Heathrow
    Used ALL of my 3 hr layover at Heathrow to navigate bathroom visits (due to my cold), passport control, NOT picking up luggage, finding the wrong terminal, training to the right terminal, and getting to the right gate, where they had already started boarding. !!!
    Ate one of my pasteis de nata, saved the other for the fam
    Two films (The Holdovers and Joyride) and some sleep
    Arrived in Vancouver 9 hrs later
    Found the shuttle and the super-cute Accent Inns
    Showered and crashed
    Up at 9am to check out and breakfast next door at Eggscellent (looking at you, Charlotte)
    Hung out at the Sandman, waiting for the Amtrak Thruway bus at noon
    Easy ride home
    Light railed and bussed from the ID home
    Greeted by azaleas, Phoebe, and Charlotte, and later by Joe

    Early a.m. flight arrival in Madrid (still dark!)
    Wonderful time at Stbx (with Pumpkin Cold Brew even!) at Lisbon airport with M& T, and then also with A& E on their arrival
    Pastel de nata!
    Bus to Valdas da Rainha
    Crash nap. First time to be horizontal in 28 hrs !!!
    Delish dinner on the patio. Carrot orange tart for dessert!
