    Exploring Calais Tuesday 23rd May

    May 23, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌬 13 °C

Lovely day exploring. The town hall was magnificent. Opposite was a park with a massive WWll bunker. Loved the statues of the 6 burghers. Citadel, where the English laid seige to the French in 1346. Edward lll said if 6 people come out wearing a noose and with the keys to the town, he would let the rest live. He was so impressed with their bravery, and his wife Phillipa asked for mercy as she was pregnant, that he spared everyone.
Fortifications from the 2nd World War on Churchill Avenue. Magnificent Church of Notra Dame and the Tudor gardens. The roses scented the air. Beautiful 😍.
Found a wonderful spot by the harbour to rest up. So nice we stayed the night. Picnic tea was magnificent 👌 as we ate everything in the fridge!
