  • Day 91: London

    July 13, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Took the train from Mile End to Westminster. Stumbled out of the station and Big Ben was right there taking our breath away. We did a little ring route over the bridges past the covid memorial wall and Westminster Abbey before hunger got the better of us. Looking for food we noted the roads to the Abbey were all blocked off and Bobbies everywhere. Turns out the King and Queen of Belgium were in the house and we got to see the laying of the wreath for those fallen and the armed forces procession. Walked through Trafalgar Square and ate at O’Niels near China Town before heading to see Hades Town at the Lyric Theatre in the West End. The first half was good but the second half was mind blowing. Tears. Walked through Piccadilly Circus to catch a train to Wimbledon. Big mistake. Huge. Despite the fact there was still tennis on they weren’t letting anyone in. Couldn’t even get merch. So sussed out our local pubs instead.Read more

  • Day 92: London

    July 14, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

As per yesterday we caught the train and when we stepped out Tower of London and the Tower Bridge hit us in the face. We still haven’t learnt our lesson; what we thought would be an hour at the tower ended up being four! And we STILL didn’t see everything. But we did see the crown jewels and the changing of the guard. We ate lunch at a pub and watched Alcaraz demolish the Joker while deciding where to watch that nights Euro cup final. We went to Brewdog but they wanted 50 quid for entry. We quickly realised getting outta town would be best. So we shared a drink with Michelle out host before watching it at a local pub called the Coborn. We had to stand and it was a good match. Locals were fired up in song and well behaved despite the loss.Read more

  • Day 93: Richmond

    July 15, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Today we shipped 15 kilos of stuff home!! We decided to catch the train to Richmond and discover all things Ted Lasso. We started at the Kew Gardens. Visited the tragic palace of George 3rd, the waterlillies, art exhibition, beehive, dragon pergoda and treetop walk. Walked our way to Richmond green. Visited the new Ted Lasso merch store and the pub used in the show. We saw the place used as his apartment and “the bench”. Train back to the Harry Potter 9 and 3/4 railway station. Huge line up for pics so we shopped and ran. Met up with our friend Callista who went to school with Emma and is living in London at the Spitalfields markets which was totally lovely.Read more

In town we climbed the tower bridge. Such a magnificent structure. Went to the Princess Diana photo exhibition. Caught the train to near Buckingham Palace and had an ok lunch at the Feathers pub. Then we had our tour of Buckingham Palace. Such a well organised worthwhile tour. Bar hopped for a bit. Caught the train to see the Shakespeare Globe. Decided not to spend the next three hours watching Much Ado About Nothing. Bar hopped home.Read more

  • Day 95: London- Doha-Adelaide

    July 17, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

After shipping off 15 kilo of goods, we stretched our check in right up to 30k each plus 7k carry on. Left behind was approximately 2-3k of shampoos, unwanted shoes and even knickers. Hopefully our host Michelle can use or distribute some of the items (no not the undies!). Early to the airport we sacrificed 2 piccolos to make the weight. No probs through security and we could relax. Thanks for following me on my trip of a lifetime. See you soon. Btw I’ll be editing each day before printing my book so please turn off notifications. ❤️Read more
