Quick stop for lunch, will need to come back and take a more detailed look. Looked like a great place to spend an afternoon.
Woomera seemed like a ghost town whilst we were there. There was no one on the streets. The only place that was open was the information centre.
The information centre is home to the free Woomera Heritage Centre and the Interactive Rocket Range Museum. This provided an excellent history (both visual and interactive) of Woomera's beginnings as a missile research centre and continued activities in space and aeronautics.Read more
These cottages date back to the 1930s give some feel for the conditions that the opal miners endured. They are maintained by volunteers and oddly enough kept being vandalised when fenced off. Now that they are left open, there are rarely any issues and sometimes the displays are even added to.Read more
The ruins of the historic town Farina, a testament to its history as a grainery, were a surprise for us. It's bakery is run for 2 month's of the year and utilises the original underground ovens, completely by volunteers. So much history to explore and so little time. We'll need to revisit in the future. Lot's of rapters around the place as well (8 in the sky nearby).Read more
