  • Machu Picchu!

    24 Oktober 2019, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Machu Picchu! Do I need to say more?😍
    1 / 7 world wonders ✔

Hidden in the middle of the Andes, 2.400m above sea level, Machu Picchu was built around 1450 by the Incas. Only 100 years ago it was discovered and known to the world. Machu Picchu means "old mountain".

Today we were able to visit this stunning place, it was truly amazing to finally see this world wonder in person 😍

We also hiked up to the Sun Gate, from which we could see Machu Picchu from above.

  • Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes - Cusco

    24 Oktober 2019, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

After exploring the amazing Machu Picchu, the bus took us back to Aguas Calientes for lunch before we got on the local train to Ollantaytambo.
Besides weirdly switchig directions, the train broke down half way. No problem, we had fun drinking beers! (Until they ran out, probably weren't prepared for a group of drinking Scotts)
Time passed by quickly anyway watching many of us doing push ups when mistakenly using the word "mine" - a weird game introduced by the Scotts which turned out to be fun. All the way through the G Adventures trip we tried to trap each other to say the word;-) I got away with 20 pushups on the train 😁

  • Rainbow Mountain / Montaña Winikunka

    25 Oktober 2019, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 1 °C

Definitely one of the highlights in Peru!!😍🏔
La montaña de siete colores alias Rainbow Mountain or Winikunka (how the locals call it) was on our To Do List today.
5.036m above sea level, this incredibly colourful mountain stands out of several surrounding peaks.
The colours come from different minerals. The perfect spot for stunning views, nice pictures and meeting some llamas😎 The hike was very exhausting due to the high altitude, so we had to go slow. Once we made our way back down, it even started to snow. We just made it there on time when it was still sunny :)

  • Shopping time and Guinea Pig

    26 Oktober 2019, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

After our night out, it was a pretty relaxed day. Everyone from the group who hadn't left Cusco yet had to fight with a hangover in this high altitude. The two girls from LA and I went to a local market for some souvenir shopping - not much more space left now for more shopping in other countries 🙈 At night I met the LA girls again for dinner together with the two Dutch girls that I kept on running into at a lot of places along the way. I finally found a place to try the Peruvian delicacy guinea pig. Surprisingly it was very tasty! Afterwards we saw a local celebration by coincidence with fireworks and then we already had to say goodbye. So many nice people that I met so far!Baca selengkapnya

  • Maras y Moray

    27 Oktober 2019, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Last day in Cusco = exploring day!
Before leaving the area of Cusco, I booked a day trip to Maras and Moray to see more of Cusco's surroundings.
The Incan grass terraces as well as the coloured salt mines, from where they produce large amounts of salt to export to other countries, were very interesting to see.
Once back in Cusco at the Pariwana hostel, I packed my things and hopped on the night bus towards Puno.

  • Hola Bolivia/ Hola Isla del Sol!

    28 Oktober 2019, Bolivia ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Today it was time for another stamp in my passport 😊 WELCOME TO BOLIVIA!
After arriving to Copacabana, I took the boat to Isla del Sol to spend the night there - without having booked any accommodation. The
houses were located steep up the hill and after a hard hike up with my heavy backpack, I found a nice accommodation with view over the lake. It was probably the best deal ever, 70 Bolivianos = 9€ for a single room with private bathroom and breakfast included😏
Afterwards I hiked up to the highest point of the island to see the sunset and met some nice girls from Canada and England. What a view!
Suddenly it was dark and on the island there were no lights - accordingly, the way back was pretty adventurous 🙈

  • Primer día en La Paz

    30 Oktober 2019, Bolivia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Frst day in the highest capital city of the world!
Markets, colourful houses and views from the teleferico (the Bolivians use cable cars here as public transport).
I met Sarah and Millie (from Canada and England), who I got to know on Isla del Sol, for a walking tour to get more insights of the city. We also passed by some protests due to the presidential elections that took place some days before.Baca selengkapnya

  • Salar de Uyuni

    1 November 2019, Bolivia ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

What incredible landscapes Bolivia has to offer!

After the 10h nightbus, our group for the next 3 days got together in Uyuni, where I also met Karen from Ireland again to cross the border together.
By jeep we headed off to the stunning scenery of the salt slats. White as far as one could see!
Best place for some funny pictures as well - beware the dinosaur!!

PS. With more than 10.000km² Salar de Uyuni are the biggest salt flats on earth!

  • Geysers and Laguna Verde

    3 November 2019, Bolivia ⋅ 🌙 2 °C

At 5 we left the hotel and viewed the sunset at the geysers which were almost 5.000m above sea level. After stopping by some hot springs (nobody went inside due to the cold outside!), we visited the colourful Laguna Verde. On the way we saw even more vicuñas. Our driver finally dropped us off at the border to cross to Chile - after a long process we were able to arrive in San Pedro de Atacama.Baca selengkapnya
