Packing challenge

We've started assembling documents, shoes, outer wear, hiking stuff, city stuff while wondering about the weather, and our companions on the hike. We have airline tickets, train tickets and trusty old Rick Steves on Paris. Biggest challenge so far is getting hiking poles through TSA. We've concluded that checking an extra bag is the only assured way to make sure they travel with us. They are too long for our usual carryon roller bags.
