    Tonight I couldn’t help thinking about the old joke.

    Question: What’s the difference between a mandolin and a fish?

    Answer: You can tune a mandolin, but you can’t tuna fish.

    A big banner proclaimed “Tuna is not a fish” tonight as a singing group called Tuna sang for us aboard the Viking Osfrid. Made up of students from the University of Coimbra, this group has won many competitions across Europe for their rendition of Portuguese folk music. Part guitar band, part glee club, these young men entertained us for the better part of an hour with music ranging from fado to Flamenco. One of the singers pulled double duty as he provided acrobatic dancing with two large flags in time with the music. Some songs were poignant, some were silly, but we were honored to be entertained by young people intent on maintaining this ancient form of Portuguese folklore.Leggi altro
