Day 13 - Transit to Tabuaço

Explore Guimarães enroute to Tabuaço. Great old town with castle and palace.

Castle constructed in the mid-10th century but suffered many modifications. It is related to some symbolic moments of Portugal’s path to independence, such as the Guimarães siege of 1127 by Alfonso VII of Castile to Afonso Henriques.

The palace was built in the 5th century by Alfonso, first Duke of Bragança with the size of the palace and architectural details show European (particularly French) influence.Read more
