    We marveled at how the Pinnacles have been sculptured by acidic ground water beneath the dunes. Once the Pinnacles are exposed by shifting sands, they are further sculptured by the wind, rain, and sun. The sand is golden quartz sand.
    The quandong fruit tree is very unusual with leaves like gum trees and small Berry like fruit. A close relative of Saddleworth, the colourful succulent fruit is a favourite of the emu. Pounded quandong leaves were used by aboriginal people to treat skin infections and diseases introduced by European settlers. Oil from the nut can be used as an ointment for cuts, dry skin, and cracked feet. The outer red, fleshy skin surrounds a hard kernal, with the taste resembling a blend of tart apricot and rhubarb, the skin can be made into jam, jelly or relish. The nuts are eatable when roasted.
