Whalers Memorial and Memorial Bay

This is another lovely swimming spot. All that we visited today are not far from Flinders Bay Caravan Park, where we are staying. Great bike/walk track along the river and water as well.

The Whaling: Flinders Bay has had a long association with Whaling.
American whalers were operating in the 1830's when the first settlers were living at Augusta. Whaling continued to flourish and in 1844 "Try Works" was erected near Barrack Point. This settlement around this point was known as "The Whaling" and the name was still in use in the early part of the century 1969.Read more
