Old Telegraph Station

The Old Telegraph Station ruins near Eucla. The station masters house was built in the sand dunes and is often resumed by the shifting sands.

We were going to take the first exit from the main road to get here, but it was sand and Mick said no way, we are on our own and don't want to get bogged. Thankfully there is a much better entry to this from behind the roadhouse. It also goes to the well-used airstrip. You can walk down through the desert to see more ruins past the Station Masters house and down to the beach.

We met up with the young family that we met on the killer whale tour and they had taken the sandy first road in, they got bogged and jack knifed their van, luckily not too much damage. Lovely little family, moving from Sydney to Gympie to try out farm life.Read more
