• And then we walked… a LOT #1

    In fact the pedometer says we have walked 21.4km today! Leaving the Louvre we headed off through the Jardin des Tuileries passing the Musee de L’Orangerie (which apparently has a magnificent collection of impressionist art but which was unfortunately also closed) and the Place de la Concorde (with it’ impressive pink granite, gold tipped obelisk – which was a gift from Egypt in 1831) before heading up the Champs Elysess. Initially the Champs Elysess (named for the Elysian Fields “Heaven” of Greek mythology and the very last part of the Tour de France) passes though parklands but then it evolves into a retail strip. It is quite odd really high end retailers like Louis Viton, Tiffany’s and Cartier rub shoulders with H&M, foot locker and tatty souvenir shops.Read more
