    Reflection

    5 days ago I started my way on the Camino Frances! Time for a quick reflection! I realize that I am getting calmer and more mindful about the nature around me! „Time after time“ or step after step could be a good Soundtrack for it! The Camino teaches you that there is a huge power in supporting others! Planning is important but as important is to react flexibly in the moment! When things change, change your plans and go with the flow! Leading here means define the goal/target, find the right path for your group, and check that you are right! Make sure the people around you give you energy and make you better! And the Camino is the best school for Europeans! Spanish people feel as Europeans, which I love! Speed is a question of perspective…
    And it’s important to know where you finally belong! Missing my family!    Les mer

    Good morning

    The best sleep of the week as we got the quiet room! After „Good morning“, „Boit ton café“ and „Don’t stop me now“, Silvia selected „it’s a beautiful day“ as our song of the day! We will sing „…and I just can’t stop smiling“ when we have the steep uphill today! Now it’s time for breakfast- the others are already gone! We get them later! Btw- I decided not to read the news anymore because they make me angry! Maybe football news!Les mer

    Siesta and Fiesta

    Yesterday we decided for a Siesta after our daily stretching session! Afterwards we went to there Fiesta where the bulls run through the city! Estrella was FULL of people all dressed up in white and red! Although the whole „Corsa de Torros“ is disgusting I understand that it means identity to the Basque people! Our albergue closed at 10pm so we left the party early- we met a lot of others (Italians, who else) in the kitchen and had a real pilgrim experience of sharing!Les mer

    Logroño

    28km of walking in the sun and we finally arrived in Logroño, the capital of the region Rioja! The song of the day is „Don’t stop me now!“- as today all of our feet were aching (maybe with the exception of Davide, our mountain goat 🐐 ! We picked up Christian from Zurich, a German working for UBS, who walked with us for a few hours! I think he was confused when we sang our song of the day and chose a different „Habitacion“! The Alberge today is let by the church so basically for free (just a „donativo“ if you like)! Cooking and eating is done together which will be a spiritual experience! I volunteered to be the „kitchen aid“!Les mer

    Before we went to the dinner today, we tasted the first glass of Rioja which was nice! We prepared dinner for about 50 people from all over the world: Africa, USA, Germany, Italia, La France, Spain, etc.! I cut the vegetables and washed the dishes (Petra would have been proud of me 😊)! We sang the traditional Ultreia Song together, shared wine and bread which created a big sense of community! I am not religious but tonight was close to the original feeling of christianity! The very charismatic priest invited us to a short exclusive prayer in the church (enlightened by candles, which had something from the Da Vinci code! As it was a multi language prayer he asked me to take the German part! So I was reading my first prayer in a church in a catholic church in Spain! Weird! The sleeping room is very narrow and I hope I don’t fall out of the bed! I am sure I won’t sleep a lot again… good night and kisses back homeLes mer

    Camino duro

    The whole room started very early today around 4.30 am! One of the last were a gay German couple who studied catholic theology, which is quite brave, given where the catholic church still is! We had a good breakfast and went quite fast! As almost every day we passed a Korean family! The mother walks fully covered and even wears gloves! I heard it’s about the ideal in Korea to have white skin (which shows you are in the upper class, working in the city! We passed a house where a little dog was looking for some hugs through the fence, which we couldn’t avoid giving her! Really cute - I miss my luna! 🥲
    On the downhill areas I realized that my knee and femur mussel of the left leg really hurt! Maybe we ran too fast, maybe it was because of the shoe inlays? However, I need to get it fixed, we are „just“ at 200 km! Our new drug here is Radio Salil! I think that Silvia would be a great Sales person 🙂!
    We heard from others that several people already give in! We won’t see them again!
    30 Km were tough today! Tomorrow it will be a bit shorter! Did I tell you hoe hard the Camino is? It REALLY is hard!!!
    Song of the day was „Walking on sunhine“ but at the end it was rather „I will survive“! When I heard the Disco Boys today I felt homesick as it remembered me of my loving lady! 🥰 „ One more time“    Les mer

    Today was shorter -21km- which everybody needs after yesterday! We have a nice room even with TV which we won’t use as we need to celebrate Davide‘s promotion to Major! I think he got it because he is doing just sich a good job on the Camino 😉! Song of the day was „All you need is love“ by the Beatles! But for Davide it should be „Running up that hill“ by Kate Bush! In fact we saw 1 guy RUNNING with his backpack today- crazy! I just am happy that my feed get me here at all! Met a few Germans again like Jürgen but also Tom or Rosana! The hostel is huge here!Les mer

    La notte del Maggiore

    Today we celebrated Davide‘s promotion to the Maggiore rank! He made it to the top 10 (out of 100), so we are all proud of him! We started with Paella, had a relaxing foot-bath and finished it with an excellent dinner in a top restaurant! Mille Gracie!Les mer

    Belorado - it‘s raining

    The Alberge has a pool, which is great- however the food wasn’t- our room today is a transit room and the guys next door walk in and out every 5 minutes! We plan to start early tomorrow as it’s a longer tour to San Juan de Ortega! I hope I can walk well with the first blister- wrong sox! 😵‍💫Les mer

    Yesterday, we celebrated our first week together, it was a lovely day, also because we celebrated the promotion of our Davide, who became "maggiore" in the italian army !! Bravo and keep going ! Really proud of you ! I don't know what will happen after but we are a really family with Davide alias "le Filou", Frank alias "Dad", Silvia alias "Abuela" and me alias "Loulou". Dajeee !Les mer

    …sunshine! Castillia looks like Denmark 🇩🇰 here! Soft hills covered with pines for most of the time followed by a very rural area! There was hardly a (good) Alberge so I finally put my feed up high in a very stylish Hostel! Just renovated with a little bit more privacy! It could also be in a German „Mittelgebirge“! The Korean family shares the room with us and next to the village is a prehistoric parc!Les mer

    Burgos

    The Camino to Burgos was relatively easy and short as we expended yesterday’s! Today our little Camino group will disband as Silvia and Louis will return to France and Davide will need to hurry and take 2 stages at ones for the next few days! Bon voyage and Buen Camino!
    As ugly Burgos salutes his visitors with boring industrial industry suburbs the prettier Burgos old town is! Burgos has a similar size than Kiel but looks way bigger. Nice alleys with tapas bars and historical buildings like the Castle of the templars or the Cathedral! Nicest city I have seen on the whole Camino - II found out that actually I don’t like cities at all! Maybe that’s why I enjoy living in the village Neuberend with my lovely Family!    Les mer

    After I passed the nice west part of Burgos with its nice parks and old buildings, the most depressing part so far started! Yesterday the Camino looked like a school excursion of 10 years old! Maybe because I started late today, maybe too many people ended their Camino in Burgos - however I almost saw nobody- no Pilgrim and almost nobody else! Wheatfields over and over and a few tiny old towns - this really feels lonely! However just when I thought about „ok, the Camino will somehow take care of me, an old nun guided me into a small chapel and gave me this necklace! She told me in Spanish that it will protect me ! Can’t hurt in this wilderness where I just saw a big snake!Les mer

    Today I am on my way to San Nicolas- a special Albergue with no electricity! Feeling good after 22 Km- less than 10 to go! Picked up Christian on the way and we had good conversations- but he won’t go all the way with me now! Still very few people although many Albergues are pre-booked and sold out!     No lights in San Nicolas

    Davide recommended to stay in San Nicolas, which is a special place in front of an ancient bridge! The former chapel was rebuilt by an Italian couple! They only accept 12 guest for a reason (the 12 apostles)! We cook and eat together, there is a ritual food washing and after dinner there is no light available but candles! The beds are basic but clean! Let’s see this as an experience! I explored that the guy next to ne snores 🤦🏼, so I have to sleep quickly! The washing rooms are in a separate room and surprisingly clean and new! I went to the next little village to eat at least something (patatas bravas) - but it was very depressing!Les mer

    First we got an ancient christian footwashing, followed by a blessing! The dinner was very special- lasagna, Tortillas and Cheese with Serano followed by a local cake! Even the head of the Galizien Camino association joined us! All just with candles!Les mer

    Cold morning

    After 5 h of sleep I started at 5.30 am! It’s cold and very dark outside- the only companions are a few bats 🦇 and Melissa Etheridge „cone to my window. After a while I passed a guy with a headlight and since then I see him following me like a shadow! Somehow I liked it better to follow his light! In the darkness I need to be very careful, not to hurt my feet! Listened a bit to Hape Kerkeling and thought about my mirror- there was this German woman from Würzburg who constantly complained about everything- I know I can be line that, too! Horrible-I will try to stop being like that in the future!Les mer
