• Day 24 Boquete

    May 9, 2023 in Panama ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Breakfast, walk and school for 8am. Lesson was a little tricky today, but went to the Tuesday market in town and was great to talk to each stall holder and practice Spanish! Spoke with a guy for a while from San Blas who explained his indigenous craft work and how concepts of nature are told through hand stitched material art work. Also a lot of US stalls selling free bible classes?

Headed to a coffee Farm in the afternoon - beautiful spot really high up in the hills. guide Carlos had worked on the Farm when he was 10, and had spent his life working in different areas of the coffee trade - picking, packing, selling etc. He spent a lot of time saying how coffee farms won't last in Boquete because of 'gentrification' mainly by Western retirees. 70% of the countries coffee is grown here, but Farm land can be sold for a huge amount of money to build mult million dolor golf resorts and gated communities. (also apparently should never buy ground coffee as its mainly roasted rice/corn/twigs!) this guy didn't hold back from keeping it real 😅 had delicious wine-style coffee tasting to end.

Had a lovely evening talking with Maryans youngest son who is a big music and salsa fan so got to listen to lots of music recommendations!
