  • Day 15 - Bocas Del Toro

    30 April 2023, Panama ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

First day Panama - 4 hour journey on bus, slightly chaotic border crossing! Lovely boat ride to the island. Instantly love the feel to the place - loud music, lots of energy, a bit rough round the edges and super colourful. Rented out a bike, chilled drink and chat in town overlooking the water. Gorgeous air bnb in Saigon Bay - arty type house with jetty on the water. Chats with some other people staying here and a chilled one in for the eveningBaca selengkapnya

  • Day 16 - Bocas

    1 Mei 2023, Panama ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

A! wonderful rainy day in Bocas - I'm in love with this place! Gorgeous early am bike ride through saigon bay and town, quick espresso stop then great first Spanish lesson at the new school with Gabriel. A rainy couple hours of eating and pottering in shops with Jill, then a scooter ride to Playa bluff. There's only tarmac roads in the main town so it was a bumpy and beautiful ride to a gorgeous beach. Back to town when we passed an incredible (and for some reason very emotional!) parade in town that we think was for labour day. Some street tacos after, then cycle back to air bnb - chats with the owner and her friend who gave me some Guana bana fruit (delicious!)Baca selengkapnya

  • Day 45 Mompox to Tolu

    2 Mei 2023, Kolombia ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

6am bus to Sincelejo - with very bizarre in bus entertainment (hacksaw ridge and film about a kid with cancer?!) . Again people were so helpful giving me a hand with figuring out next bus from Sincelejo. got to Tolu at lunchtime - feels a little like a Columbian version of Scarborough! Has lovely people again, and some shabby chic charm although apparently not too safe out of the main street. Very tired chill afternoon at hotel, sunset quick bite by the sea. Room didn't lock so an odd night of making precautionary door baracades and not too much sleep 🫣😅Baca selengkapnya

Through the jungle to blue lagoon after our bike broke down and we had to get a replacement 🙃 very muddy and very fun riding! Then quick falafel and a goodbye to Jill - early migraine night in ✌️Baca selengkapnya

  • Day 18 - Bastimentos

    4 Mei 2023, Panama ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Early am wake up, homework in the hammock and cycle into town for lesson. Quick juice stop before getting the boat to Isla Bastimentos - 40 min trip through mangroves and past Isla Solarte, with ecolodge worker Ishmail. Greeted on the island by sunshine! And the owner Michel. This place is total paradise!! Open air huts right on the beach, with the sea so calm it's like a natural swimming pool (there's reefs super close by that keeps this bit always calm) afternoon of reading, swimming, walked through a bit of jungle to the beach on the other side - and mainly just looking around in slight disbelief! Dinner was delicious - 'family style' with other guests here. What a find of a place!Baca selengkapnya

  • Day 19 - Bastimentos

    5 Mei 2023, Panama ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Woke up to tropical style heavy heavy rain - was amazing to watch it from the comfort of bed! Sky cleared up and had a full day of chilling, reading, snorkelling all 5 metres from my hut! food was incredible again (3 course candlelit meal every night) moon is amazingly bright, with a maxed out 'calming sounds' playlist in real life all at once!Baca selengkapnya

  • Day 20 - Bastimentos

    5 Mei 2023, Panama ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Another glorious day on this beautiful island! Early morning swim on especially calm water just after sunrise. Pancake and coffee breakfast, then 30min walk to the one village on the island 'Salt Creek' with Ishmail. He was filling me in on the islands history - his grandparents were the first people on the island in 1940 as they were looking for a good place to base for fishing, with just 3 people total. Today's there's 1000 people on the island, 50% all family. The community have total control and say on what happens here - anyone who wants to buy a house, build something, start a new tour etc gets decided on by the community, and their number one priority is it must be in balance with nature. If not, it doesn't happen. The government wanted to bring electricity and a concrete road to the island but they rejected it (there's just 1 main path round the island and it's the beach :)) the village was beautiful - and had an impromptu tour by an older guy called Taylor whos lived here all his life - we walked through a trail in the jungle, spotted some red frogs, no sloths (apparently they'd already dried off from the rain so were hanging out away from the sun!) Taylor calls the golden manequin bird the 'Michael Jackson' as its always dancing to attract mates. Apparently it clears a small area, keeps it really clean, and has it as his 'dancefloor'. We kept spotting 'dance floors', and hearing their calls, but no real life Michael Jacksons! He showed me a type of fibrous plant they make bags, jewellery, hammocks from. Also a 'big lips' plant, a prehistoric plant and a 'walking palm' (moves 7cm a year)! Walked back along the beach after getting slightly lost! Then afternoon of more beach time and reading ✌️Baca selengkapnya

  • Day 22 - Boquete

    7 Mei 2023, Panama

Early am last swim, quick breakfast then off on the boat back to Bocas town, and another boat to the mainland. 4 hour bus ride down through Panamá, the whole ride was mainly just dense greenery and waterfalls! Boquete is right in the Hills (I think about 2.5k mtrs altitude) and next to Volcán Baru. Town seems quite spread out, with a small but busy town Centre with a river running through one side.

After visiting the school, picked up by David, the step dad of the host family im staying with. House is pretty basic but all good and has all the life of a busy family house - and a very cute cat called Mimi (mouse replacement for the week)! Maryam is the mum, and sells flowers at local market. She has 3 kids who are in and out of the house - all seem lovely, and great to be able to practice speaking with everyone in Spanish!

  • Day 21 - Bastimentos

    7 Mei 2023, Panama

Super rainy morning! Was gorgeous swimming in it first thing, with a big rainbow across the sea. Had a lovely cosy morning reading in the hammock. Lunch, bit of Spanish and then a boat ride to coral island for snorkelling (the starfish are about half a meter wide, coral was purple and orange and lots of gorgeous lil fish swimming about) and saw some dolphins! They were playing in the waves made by the boat, so the driver kept driving in circles and they kept playing :) back to hotel, quick sea kayak at sunset then packed up ready to leave in the am.Baca selengkapnya

  • Day 23 - Boquete

    8 Mei 2023, Panama ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Early wake up, and patacones and coffee for breakfast 👌 short walk from the house to the school. Teacher Maricelle seems sweet, lovely to have lessons outside in a quiet garden of the school. After lesson had pre migraine nap, then walk round town in the afternoon. Sat in the park for a while, chatted, got food and started a bit of columbia planning. Theres a very slow pace feel to the town, very chill (apparently this is a real hot spot for US retirees?) back to the house for dinner with the family (rice and beans, very tasty) and an early nightBaca selengkapnya
