    Batik Lesson

    June 24, 2019 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

From the graveyard we went to a place nearby to learn about Batik. We sat outside under cover and were shown how to apply hot wax to the cotton material using little pipes. Then we were each given a piece of material to do our own. A pattern had been drawn on the material already for us to follow. Once completed to our batik teacher's satisfaction the the pieces of material were dipped into buckets of dye. We couldn't wait for ours to dry so our guide Rifa has taken them home to dry for us.

Steph - it was interesting to watch the batik teachers doing the waxing step. They were so fast compared to me and didn't get any blobs of wax anywhere.
Ripley - the coloring step was interesting and then we saw some of the lovely materials they make with a lot of detail which take a month to make.
