    Start of our trip to Tasmania. Long travel day. Had a 3 hour delay at Sydney Airport for a flight to Hobart. Finally arrived and to bed about 1am, 3am NZ time.

    Didn't travel far yesterday by the time we picked up the campervan and stocked up on groceries. Getting our Aussie sim cards sorted was a bit of a mission. Stayed in Richmond the night made Kangaroo burgers for dinner. This morning had a look at the village, very quaint.Read more

    Did some walks at Mt Field national park.
    Saturday the weather was predicted to to better than Sunday.
    We drove up a long gravel road(not really allowed inhire vehicle) to lake Dobson. Walked for one and a half hours to Tarn Shelf. Snowing and cold snow became quite deep so turned around.
    Sunday morning weather was actually better did a circuit of waterfalls in the valley, very nice. Then drove to Lake St Clair.    Read more

    Awoke to snow outside this morning. Sitting in the camper with the heater on.
    Ventured out for a walk to shadow lake. Very pretty. Nearly stepped on a Tiger snake sunning itself on the board walk.

    Did a boat ride to the end of Lake St Claire today. Then made our way toward Queenstown stopping to check out some small nature trails. Campsite for the night was near a place called Linda.
    Train trip from Queenstown partly on a steep rack railway.

    Thursday we had stunning weather, friday as we drove to Cradle Mt NP we had rain. Then we were so fortunate to get another stunning day for our hike to the summit of Cradle Mt.
    The last 1.5 hours to the summit is a steep rock scramble and there was snow at the top.Read more

    Another fine day on Sunday. Did some smaller walks in the Cradle Mt park.
    On Monday we drove to Boat Harbour. On the way we found our own little bit of rhododendron festival with one difference there were platypus in the lake.
    Tuesday was a walk in Rocky cape NP and then a drive thru some quaint old rural towns.    Read more

    Wednesday was colonial/convict heritage day. Visited Evandale, whole town is national trust listed. Then Campbell town and Ross. All very quaint.
    Thursday we have been exploring the Bay of Fires area.

    Friday was a wet drive down to Freycinet NP.
    Saturday and Sunday saw the weather improve again. We did a walk to Wineglass Bay. Then next day up Mt Amos a very challenging climb both ways due to the slippery granite rock. Fantastic view from the top.Read more

    Long drive Monday down to Port Arthur. Did a walk in the afternoon to see some rock arches along the coast.
    Tuesday we did a boat trip around coast checking out Cape Hauy, Cape pillar. Also Tasman island which is the southern/eastern most point in Australia. Along the way saw Dolphins, Seals, Albatross and Whales. Very cold today 5 degrees.Read more

    Wednesday morning we visited the Port Arthur historic site. All looks very picturesque now, hard to imagine the lives of those people. In the afternoon we walked out to Cape Hauy.
    Thursday morning was quite wet. In the afternoon we braved the showers to do another walk to Mt Brown.
    Friday we headed back to Hobart. Returned the camper. Then took the explorer bus up to the top of Mt Wellington. Snow flurries at the top but started clear as we walked back down.    Read more

    Saturday we enjoyed the Salamanca market . Also explored the historic area of battery point.
    Sunday we had an organised bus tour to Bruny Island. This involved sampling some of the local foods.
    Monday we caught the ferry to Mona art museum. So much to see there.    Read more
