    Kimberley Day 11 - Back to Broome

    River walk and talk with Winsome about river & desert people/country.
    The bus clutch kept letting go, and we limped along at 60-70 km back to Broome- bus no. 3 meet us 1.5 hrs out & followed us in (just in case)
    3 people catching the 7pm plane out made their flight
    Back in time to watch the sunset over Cable Beach
    Cable beach RAC cabin comfy - state of origin on at near by pub/brewery, very few other options for food, so ubereats to the rescue!

  • Kimberley day 9 - Purnululu

    June 16 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

    4.15 am start to drive 1 hr and watch sunrise over the bungles
    Walked into picaninny lookout and Cathedral Gorge in the morning then
    Echidna chasm and Osmand ranges lookout in the afternoon.

  • Kimberley day 7 - Lake Argyle

    June 13 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

    24 degrees overnight, no breeze so very little sleep
    Checked out the dam face and hydroelectric outflow before seeing the Durac homestead & history.
    Enjoyed the Sunset cruise & swim - saw rock wallabies, one fresh water croc, nowhere near the swim spot!Read more

  • Kimberley - day 6 to Kunnanara and Lake Argyle

    Jun 12–19 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

    Into Zebedee springs at 7am & came across an olive python in the process of swallowing a rock wallaby. Springs shut at 7.30 for next 2 to 7 days while it finishes swallowing & digesting. We had a very exclusive visit - cars lined up at the gate waiting as we drove past and out.
    Drove to the end of the Gibb River Road, and onto Kununarra for 2.5 hours - lunch, art gallery visit, provisions before onto Lake Argyle Resort. Relaxed afternoon, with dip in the infinity pool and happy hour at the bar. Crocodile patties for dinner.

  • Kimberley - day 5 Emma Gorge

    June 11 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

    Slower start (6.45am) to drive to Emma Gorge. 3.2km return walk up the gorge (rock scrabbling most of the way) to a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. Not rock art here, but a thermal sprung into the water to take a bit off the chill off.
    Lunch back at camp and a rest afternoon.
    El Questro has all mod cons, including a cafe at Emma Gorge, bar at the main camp. Enjoyed by all
    Heard barking owls and howling dingos.

  • Kimberley Day 3 - Manning Falls & Gibb River Road

    June 9 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

    6.30 start walk into Manning Falls, which started with 30m swim across the river to the track. 6km walk total in/out of gorge. Rocky scrabble down and back out.

    Afternoon drive to Galvans Gorge. Short 1km return walk in for another dip. More rock art on gorge walls.
    Jennie swam at every opportunity.
    Overnight at Mt Barnett campsite and new bus delivered from Broome

  • Kimberley day 2

    Jun 8–10 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

    Up @ 5.15 for early walk into Windjana gorge - kingfisher, crocs sunning.
    Bus issues - slowed to 'go slow' pace.
    Dalmanyi Gorge for lunch & swim. Watched a water monitor dive in, catch a fish and chomp down before sunning itself on the rocks
    Slow drive onto Manning station into set up tents.
    Saw Brolgas along the way
    Overnight at Mt Garnett campsite

  • Into the Kimberley Day 1

    Jun 7–8 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

    Left Broome at 7, and stopped at Willare roadhouse, through to Derby & Mark Norval Art Gallery. Indigenous painters/ art works as well as Mark's work.
    Stop at Boab prison tree & longest cattle trough. Through to Tunnel Creek (walked through the cave with water on base) where the story of Pidgeon or Jandamarra unfolded.
    Camped at Windjana Gorge - set up small dome tent with swag.

  • Wellington NP

    June 2 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

    Explored Manjimup heritage area (forestry, fruit & veg mainly) then to Bridgetown. Lovely art/music town with a great cidery & brewery. Ambie spluttering increased, so a stop at Collie for spark plug change & all fixed - phew!
    Checked the mural on the dam wall at Wellington NP. Overnight at Potters Gorge in the NP

    Spent the morning at the museum (it was really good) including on the replica 'Amity' the brig that sailed frpm Sydney via Hobart with first european settlers.   • Albany and surrounds day 1

    May 27–28 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

    Morning walk towards Nancy Peak, but at the first sadde the wind was blowing a hooley approx 500m, so turned back to look for coffee! Warnings everwhere about Karri dropping branches that looked deadly. Great forest & views
    Scenic drive to Torndirrup NP for a gap, a bridge, blowhoes & old whaling station.
    Saw a whale breeching off the blowholes!
    Overnight in a motel as heavy rain & thunderstorms forecast.
