    Somewhere over the Atlantic

    We had a fun day visited with our brother Jim in Durham before heading to the Raleigh/Durham Airport. After checking in we headed to the Delta Sky Club for a couple of cocktails, then on board for our overnight flight to Paris. Drinks and dinner, now time for a movie and nap. Hopefully when I wake up, we'll be in France!

    Onboard the AmaDolce

    Few hiccups today, but finally made it to Bordeaux and onboard. Just in time to freshen up before cocktail hour, welcome reception then dinner at the Captain's table.
    Overnight flight was fine but didn't care for the 3 hour delay in the airport. Reached out to Ama's emergency contact to inform them of our delay and confirm our transfer from Bordeaux airport to the cruise dock was adjusted to our arrival time. Sure enough, after getting our luggage, we went out to ground transportation where an Ama rep was waiting for us. Onboard, into our stateroom, unpacked and ready for a tasty beverage!
    Introduction of staff, safety instructions, a drink or 2, then on to dinner. Outstanding meal. Great conversation meeting new people from UK, FL, & Melissa our cruise manager and Captain Jean-Francois from France. Now time to turn in.    Leer más

    Cadillac to Bordeaux

    Cruised the Garonne River to Cadillac for a wonderful excursion of the castle and Sauternes wine tasting. 1st wine was a nice dry white then came the sweet wine. Not as bad as I thought they might have been, but thanks to the cheese appetizers we had pared, they weren't so bad. Back on board we headed back to Bordeaux to spend the next day immersed in this amazing city.Leer más

    Saint Emilion, France

    A guide tour, the ground church tour free time then winery tour and tasting. That's what the plan was but what we did was so much more than that! Breakfast while cruising to Librourne, then informational slide show of what the rest of the week will be. Tours, wine tasting and food... what else do we need to know. OK, when we leave port and what cocktail hour is, that's important!
    After lunch we headed out to Saint Emilion for a city tour and wine. We learned the history of the city and tasted amazing wines from 2016 and 2008. Back onboard for cocktail hour and then dinnerat the Chef's table, again, amazing. Plenty of wine during dinner and after, headed to the pool aka, hottub. Great way to relax before bed.     Libourne to Blaye, France

    What a beautiful day to be in France. Light breakfast of bagels and lox, then off to our first excursion; Peggy did the hike through a vineyard, I did the walk through an underground wine cellar. Both of us ended up purchasing wines to drink on board and to bring home! Afternoon was sailing to Blaye so we enjoyed lunch on the sun deck, dip in the pool, and relaxing as we enjoyed a Rose and a Brut. Quick shower before the Ama family gathering for drinks and appetizers. . Dinner is always a spectacular experience. . Tonight we brought a Bordeaux style wine from NC to compare with France wine... both were very good!

    Blaye to Bourg

    Amazing day in France! Biked in the morning to St Romain, beautiful mass with a baptism. Back on board for lunch. Cruised from Blaye to Bourg, I was onboard Peggy biked it! Then I took a walking tour of Blaye then on to a private AmaWaterways wine tasting with music and dancing. Back onboard we have cocktail hour then dinner. Always Amazing food, then to the upper deck for wine and views of this amazing county side.Leer más

    Cussac-fort-Medoc

    Could it get any better?! It has been an AMAzing journey. Today we cruised Gironde to Cussac-fort Medoc. Then a tour offered was to the Atlantic Ocean France Coast. No wine tasting involved, so we brought our. Beautiful day to be at the beach, cool breezes, awesome water temperature and one of the last lighthouse on the Atlantic coast. Back on board for Captain's reception and another great dinner. Peggy and I shared a bottle of wine on the front bow area and then off to bed for we sail to Cadillac at 345am, not that I want to be awake at that time, but tomorrow's tour is wine tasting!!!Leer más

    Cadillac to Bordeaux

    We started out in Cussac-fort Medoc then cruised Garonne to Cadillac where we did a Sauternes tasting and castle visit. Very hot today and of course these 1800 castles do not have a/c. Winery was interesting and for the most part, wines were good. Back to Bordeaux where we spend the next couple days for tour and tastings. Great meal and wines tonight, excellent.     Last day in Bordeaux

    Beautiful morning for a bike ride through Bordeaux and to the market for meat, cheese, oysters and of course WINE. Just a little because we had to bike back to the dock. Light lunch including wonderful eclairs then off the the wine museum to learn a little more about French wine making. Completed the tour on the 8th floor with a wine tasting and lovely view of city by the river. Farewell cocktail party and a great dinner. Now we have a illumination cruise then off to bed. We have a 330am wake up call for our 6am flight to Paris connecting to our direct flight to Raleigh. Good Night!Leer más
