    Collecting Monty Motorhome

    August 22, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

We picked up our rental motorhome today and due to a red engine oil lamp in our original camper we got an unforeseen upgrade to a slightly bigger model - therefore also Monty II rather than Monty I 😅
James is the official driver and despite stormy winds, country roads and lots of rain (to begin with), he did so well. You couldn’t tell that it’s his first time driving a motorhome 🥰💪🏼
We are now settled at our first campsite and are excited for the first night 🙂

  • Bumps & Beaches

    August 23, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

Despite a couple of challenges on the road (lost wing mirror glass and a scratch at the rear of Monty II), we had some incredible experiences today! We thoroughly recommend Valley of Rocks and Staunton Sands as must-see places in Devon 🤩
Now time for dinner in Monty II and an early night so we are ready for the road again tomorrow - having installed a new GPS system that helps to find roads that are more motorhome friendly 🫣😅

  • Lucky Change of Plans

    August 24, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

The weather “forced” us to change our plans slightly to miss out on Newquay but rather keep going a bit further South towards Penanzce. We anyways wanted to get there tomorrow (different campsite) but we were lucky enough to find a little gem for 1 night. Dove Meadows is beautifully situated and the people here are beyond lovely 🥰
Unfortunately, Mount St Michael was closed today so we could only admire it from a distance - but that alone was worth it. Next stop is Moushole Camping, exploring Penzance itself and hopefully manage to squeeze Lands End in as well over the next days 🙂

  • It’s our 1st Wedding Anniversary 🤍

    August 25, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

James started the day with walking Pippa on the beach, we drove to Penzance and had a drink in an old smugglers pub (run since 1695) where we toasted to our 1st wedding anniversary at exactly 12pm ❤️
We finished the day in a local Cornish village, Pippa found the love of her life and we found out I can’t understand the Cornish accent - at all 🙄😅

  • To Land’s End and back again

    August 26, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

We started the day by saying goodbye to Penzance - more super-narrow lanes (and some excellent driving) took us to Sennen Cove, somewhere where we will definitely come back to, the surfers looked cool and the town is a typical Cornish paradise. The coastal walk to Land’s End was beautiful, we saw an amazing ship wreck which was a surprise. Land’s End was very busy but it’s great to have been. Sadly the bank holiday traffic kept us from The Minack Theatre (another reason to come back) but the day ended well at our next stop in Salcombe, a lovely campsite where we’re looking forward to spending the next days.Read more

  • Pippa’s first Boat Trip

    August 27, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

After a relaxed breakfast, we started the day with a 30 minute walk to South Sands Breach, the walk was lovely (mainly downhill) and we spotted or future house at least 3 times.

A quick coffee at the beach front was followed by the very special South Sands Ferry with a not so little tractor taking us from the beach to the boat, it was Pippa’s first boat trip and she loved it.

Salcombe was idyllic, after a quick tour of the town we stopped for lunch at a lovely pup, James finally got his crab sandwich and me, my local fish, it was all delicious. We stopped at The Ferry Inn and watched the boats come and go while James sampled the local beer delicacies (again!).

Finally we took the water ferry back and a 30 minute walk back…. all uphill! VERY uphill!! Back to our camper, sandwiches from the local deli await us for our dinner. All in all, a bloody lovely day.

  • Day 2 in Salcombe

    August 28, 2024 in England ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Today was a total chill day.
We had a lovely relaxed start to the morning with scrambled eggs and cereals while Pippa had a long sleep to prepare for another day on the boat to Salcombe 😬
As the weather was cloudy ⛅️ we spent it shopping and finding pubs under cover.
We finished the day out with a cream tea and the second time hiking up Mount Everest - I mean the South Sand Hills 😬🥹
Back at the motorhome, I had to take a nap after all the hiking before we had a final pasta dinner on this lovely campsite.
Tomorrow we continue to our final stop, already close to the location where we return Monty.

  • Our final Stop

    August 29, 2024 in England ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Today we sadly had to spent mostly in the motorhome as we had to leave the South West to get closer to the drop-off location in Luton. James did amazingly (yet again) to drive - and he had to be extra careful as I have terrible pregnancy-related back pain. So really, he had to do almost everything by himself today and he was (yet again) the greatest support ❤️

We spend our last night of this holiday at Orchard View Farm which is a great campsite close to Oxford with some farm animals and a great farm store. Pippa wasn’t quite sure what to think of the animals 😅

Before we return Monty II tomorrow (and await the final judgement after our little incidents) we will make sure to get some breakfast from here in the morning 😬

  • Back at Home

    August 30, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Sadly, we had to return Monty II earlier today which meant the end of our motorhome trip 🥹🏕️
We had a wonderful time, with some ups and downs, and will look back at this week full of fond memories ❤️
