    28.–29. maj 2025, Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

I started my second day full of energy. I walked along the coast to Povoa de Varzim. I was led through the town through small alleys lined with beautiful tiled (azulejos in portuguese) houses.

    Azulejos:
The art of tile painting was brought to Portugal by the Moors, where it developed into a unique style. They show various motifs, religious scenes, historical events, mythological stories, everyday life, and ornamental patterns. In addition to their aesthetic function, azulejos also serve as a natural air conditioning system and protection from salty winds.🎨

A wooden path then paved the way along beaches and through a forest to the next settlement. The last stretch to the hostel in Marinhas was beautiful and exhausting. It led me through small villages, over a bridge, and further along the beach. After a total of 37.4 km, I arrived at the hostel.

    29.–30. maj 2025, Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

My night wasn't very restful. I woke up every hour, and when the first pilgrims started to get ready at 5 a.m., my sleep was over. So I started my day very early, incause of that I able to enjoy the cool morning hours. On the way, I met Maria and Teresa, whom I had met at the last albergue, we went a few kilometers together and had a lot of fun. After a long lunch break, I continued on towards Viana do Castelo in much too high temperatures. From there, I walked about 3 km, where I settled down for the night in the Forte de Areosa and reflected on the day while watching a beautiful sunset.Læs mere

    30.–31. maj 2025, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

The night under the open sky was just amazing. When I woke up in the morning, the first thing I saw were three pilgrims standing at the entrance to the fortress. They looked at me and then kept walking. It was kind of a funny moment.

Today I walked kilometer after kilometer along beaches, through dunes, small villages, always accompanied by the coast.🌊

When I arrived in Caminha, I met some familiar faces. In the evening, I actually just wanted to go shopping, but ended up in a bar. The owner knew the hostel in Fisterra, which is like home to me, and the hostal owners. How small the world is. After a bit of a delay, I ended up back at the hostel, where there was a huge bleaster session. I love moments like this, it is so normal that everyone helps each other. It's simply wonderful to be able to experience and see this. We all ended the evening together, singing and playing the guitar.🎶

    31. maj–1. jun. 2025, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

This morning, we first took the ferry across the border to Spain. It was a very interesting trip, after a short time, we couldn't see the mainland anymore. It felt very illegal, seven people on a motorboat, just trusting that someone is bringing us to the other side.

Once we arrived in Spain, we first walked a bit through the forest and then continued along the road. The view of the sea was beautiful, but the road was killing me. It was hot, and you were walking on tarmac in the blazing sun the whole time.

Not every path is the way I want it to be.
Some are hard and unpleasant to walk.
But it's precisely these paths that have taught me to appreciate others more. I've started to focus on other little things and discover the beautiful side.

After 20 kilometers, I wanted to stop because I'd been having problems with my ankles all day. The hostel was already full, so I asked if I could sleep on my mat in the kitchen. That wasn't possible, he offered me a single room for 20 euros instead. That was too much for me. Besides, it wasn't a place I wanted to stay it wasn't there for the people.

I then walked another 10 kilometers very slowly until I found a place to sleep outside. I was able to join them at the table at home for dinner via phone. It was a very nice and intense day.

    1.–2. jun. 2025, Spanien ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Today my walk began with a beautiful forest path, up the hill and back down the other side, where I got my first coffee. From there, I slowly made my way from place to place, cafe to cafe. The beaches were long and beautiful, the weather was too hot and perfect for doing nothing.

I made it to Vigo after 11 hours and about 33 km and was very proud of myself. I listened to my body and pushed myself to my limits, while the Camino showed me the way. When I arrived at the hostel, I received a very rude greeting, but there was an elevator, which was very nice.

In the evening, I was able to listen to a great band at a beer festival and then, exhausted from the long day, went to sleep.

After leaving the streets of Vigo, the path led me up a hill, where I walked along beautiful forest paths to Redondela. From there, I walked through small towns and further forest paths. In Arcade, I was able to spend the night in a very nice, quiet albergue. Next to the albergue was a small farm with various animals. I was able to enjoy my dinner while taking in the view and watching the first steps of newborn sheep.Læs mere

In Arcade, I began my journey inland. The paths were beautiful, I was able to walk for a long time along a river in the forest. From Pontevedra the paths came together. I was surprised how many pilgrims were now on the way.

After a few hills, I finally reached Portela. For me, this was the first real pilgrim's albergue. It was very quiet and peaceful. In the evening, we all ate together and were able to listen to Leo play the bass. The day ended with a glass of wine and great conversations.

    4. juni 2025, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Today I set off with Jan. The path led us through vineyards to Caldas de Reis, where we made a short rest in a supermarcet. We went on uphill on a nice path throw the forrest. After about 18 km, which we made in a too short time, our ways went on seperatet. Thankyou for the qtime we spent together, it was amazing, all the best, Jan.

I then continued on alone towards Herbón. On the way, I met someone in a coffee shop. He suddenly started speaking German – not because of my accent, but because, as he said, I look like a German activist, the kind who glues themselves to the street.
It’s interesting how people form opinions about you just based on your appearance. But honestly, it doesn’t surprise me anymore.
In any case, we had some great conversations and ended up walking a few meters together.

When I arrived in Herbon, I saw Diego again, whom I had also met in A Portela. It was a very nice reunion. The hostel was in an old monastery, there we were able to take part of a tour and a mass. However, I was so tired that I slept through both, makes me a little bit sad, because I would have loved to join.

At the shared dinner, the hospitalero told us that he became a hospitalero because he wanted to give something back to the Camino. I love that sentence, it’s so beautiful, and it captures the true spirit of the Camino.

The monastery in general was very beautiful, quiet, and peaceful. A perfect last night on the way to Santiago.

    5.–6. jun. 2025, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

After a wonderful, peaceful night, I set off this morning for Santiago de Compostela. The last few kilometers to Santiago passed very quickly. At the beginning, it was very flat, and the path led through many small villages. In a wooded area, I found my pilgrim's stick, or rather, it found me. The path then led slightly uphill, but barely noticeable, to the square in front of the cathedral.

At the cathedral, I was able to snag a dry spot and watch the hustle and bustle. About an hour after my arrival, Diego, with whom I stayed in the same albergue for the last two nights, also arrived. It was very nice to see him again.

At the hostel, I made two really great friends. We chatted for a long time, so I headed to the restaurant at the Spanish dinner time. I found a vegan restaurant where I enjoyed a really good vegan tortilla.

Today my day started a little later than usual. After another long chat with my roommates, I set off for Negreira.

The trail was, as expected, very beautiful. Many memories came flooding back along the way. At a bus stop, I remembered Nico sitting there, taking a break from the heavy rain. I was luckier with the weather than last time; the light drizzle accompanied me the entire way, and when I arrived at the albergue, I was able to catch a glimpse of the sun.

I had a very nice evening in the hostel with many new faces.

    7.–10. jun. 2025, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

After a very restful night, I woke up and got ready for the walk. When I took off my sleeping socks, I was shocked. I'd never seen my ankle so swollen. After an emotional breakdown and some conversation, I admitted to myself that I would take the bus to Fisterra.

During the ride, many memories of the walk came flooding back. My journey to Fisterra was different than I expected, but beautiful. I am really proud of my self, that I took this way and listened to my body, which told me to not go on by walking.

My arrival in Fisterra was magical, I went straight to the hostel, where I received a warm welcome and saw familiar faces.

I spent a few days in Fisterra, enjoying beautiful sunsets and at the same time feeling that my journey continue.

With mixed feelings about whether this is going to be the right path, I went to the beach this morning to collect shells for my bracelets. There I found a shell, which told me, that I am on the right way.

    10. juni 2025, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

On the way to Santiago, I slept in A Portela. I still remember exactly how I arrived there and immediately felt that this was a proper hostel, a hostel that was there for the pilgrims and brought them together. When they I left in the morning, I received a message from the owner asking if I wanted to stay longer and help out in the albergue. I didnt answered, because I had already moved on. Yesterday I felt that I have to go on, so I wrote him to ask if he needed anyone and he was very happy about my message.

this morning i took the bus to santiago de compostela and then to a portela. After a 6 hour bus ride I arrived exhausted and fell asleep quickly.😴

About two weeks have passed and I have become immersed in the routine as a hospitaliera.

    ☀️daily routine☀️
The day begins with a coffee, and if Maria doesn't come, I start cleaning, making the beds fresh... everything that is necessary so that I can welcome the new pilgrims. Around 12 I get the reservations from Jorge, so I know approximately how many people we will be in the evening. However, you never know exactly, sometimes many come, sometimes fewer. When I am ready, I open the hostel, usually around 3:00 PM, and start with the check-ins. Gradually, the house fills up. At 6:00 PM I start preparing dinner. I cook the eggs, heat the soup, cut the bread... At first, I thought I would be cooking, but over time I was glad that I got the soup from Maria, because it would have been a huge challenge to cook without knowing how many people would come. At 7 we all eat together, and sometimes Leo has come by and played music. The pilgrims usually started washing up themselves, which was very nice, so I did the rest and prepared everything for breakfast. After that, we sat there and let the evening fade away.

The hostel has 16 beds and 23 mattresses spread over 2 rooms. I sleep on one of the mattresses or in the hammock, in the tent... whatever I feel like. It happened that I had a room to myself and that I slept in the room with 11 bells, depending on how many pilgrims arrived.

I was able to spend the last two days on the island of Arousa. Jorge picked me up from the hostel at lunchtime and took me to the camper on the island. It was really nice to be in a different environment for a short while and to take some time for myself. The weather was perfect for lying on the beach all day and simply reflecting and processing everything that had happened in the last few days/weeks. ☀️🐚🏖️Læs mere
