Azambuja to Santarem

Well what a day, that path went on and on and on made worse by the fact it was dust, dirt and stones. I’ll never moan about boardwalks or concrete again. It was so windy walking through open farmland and exceptionally isolating. I did meet a woman from Denmark called Nada and we walked for 40mins or so but I left her as she was too slow and I wanted to make headway before I got tired. The cruelest part of today is that Santarém is on a very large and winding hill I think it has an elevation of 140m which doesn’t sound a lot but after 20 miles it’s huge. I arrived at my hotel, chosen for one reason only, my daughter in law its Hotel Vitoria !! 🤣 so I’m showered with my feet up, beer in hand and ready to go again tomorrow !Read more
