    A long long first day!

    February 10, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Haven't slept since Thursday and have spent a day in Bangkok from 8am till now looking at Buddas (lying, laughing, lucky & marble & largeBuddas so far) temples & palaces - blown away by craftsmanship!

  • Shopping day

    February 11, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 29 °C

A rather fine day at the market including an amazing 30 mins foot massage (which included hips & thighs 😲), street food and a lot of shopping...

  • Lovely thai dinner at I am aroi soi 11

    February 11, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

Simple straight forward pad Thai style prawn noodles, stir fried greens with garlic & oyster sauce, and green papaya salad. Nearly £20 including a large beer & a stonkingly strong g&t for Sarah.
Followed by cocktails in a live music covers band doing requests & people watching. Bryan Adams Summer of 69 followed by Pink Floyd's Another brick in the wall & Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water and all accompanied by a female singer who mostly made sounds like aggressive hiccups. Also street vendors selling dildos, vibrators & strap-ons and one old lady with teddy bears nearly the same size as her!

  • Another cracking day

    February 12, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 29 °C

Early ish start to meet our tour for Maeklong Railway market & Floating market . The guide had tryed to stress the importance of avoiding being run over by the train as it pulls into station while stallholders move their produce. So we were feeling a little anxious about It was so crowded and we were walking along in-between narrow gauge rails on loose stones trying to avoid turning an ankle, being pushed over by yet another reversing Insta-moment cameraman or walking into the props for the stall tarps!!!
But we were reassuringly reunited with our guy "A" and as he so accurately described it his "cock stick" aloft 🤣

  • Part 2 of cracking day 3

    February 12, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

After we successfully navigated that (& I seemed to have bought more clothes) it was off to the floating market where we boarded our vessel for the adventure. I nearly sank it as I landed on my seat rather abruptly. Then it was to sample the wares. Some really special items on offer as you can see..😲😜
And some impressive customised out board motors!!!
We were dropped off at a "shopping centre" which apparently had bugs brands for sake somewhere but we enjoyed the madness of the ground floor stalls & eateries. Spit roast alligator was a new sight for me! Then off to find ourselves the ferry across the Chao Phraya river to get the SkyTrain & metro to our home neighbourhood of Nana. Ended the day with another foot massage - this rather surprisingly included my eyebrows neck scalp & arms!

  • None too shabby

    February 13, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

So far the hotel has exceeded expectations. Beautiful rooms set in a conservation area. What’s not to like? Looking forward to spotting the wildlife.

  • All change...

    February 14, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Early night last night - much needed. Then we had to move room this morning and even tho it's a downgrade back to what we paid for it's still lovely. Went to the gym for an hour then to the beach...there was a little drizzle briefly & a lovely afternoon of sun & sea & kingfishers & hanging parrots...before dinner in the village followed by a couple of cocktailsRead more

  • Monkey Temple at Phang-nga

    February 17, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 36 °C

Inside the cave is the reclining Buddha plus Buddhas that are over two hundred years old. Added bonus of the local monkeys that were happy to receive any food that was given to them.

  • James Bond Island & floating village

    February 17, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Our tour guide today was Moo which means pig as he was apparently a big boy as a child, although he's very skinny now. We went to Khao Phing Kan aka the James Bond island from The Man with the Golden Gun. It's in Phangnga National park. And Phangnga is the floating village created on the east side of one of the limestone rock formations 300 years ago by Muslims who came by sea from Indonesia. It has it's own floating football pitch!.We had a lovely if alcohol free lunch. Most of our group were German and only the 2 young couples were even faintly pleasant or talked to anyone else/helped people in and out of the boat. Kayaking through the caves (as misbehaving passengers only) was amazing.Read more

  • Ploysuay

    Feb 19–23, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Our lovely elephant Ploysuay and we learnt how to get her to move back: Toy! Quite useful as she was reversing me into the next elephant ! After we watched her have her health check after a night in the jungle, we fed her bananas first then sugar cane (which acts as a toothbrush but is their favourite so they have to eat all their bananas first!) Then it was into the pool for a good old scrub 😍
There was an unfortunate moment when one of the keepers had to come in with a large net to collect " chocolate" 🤣
Sadly 3 of the elephants are not owned by the park but were sent there during COVID & even more sadly they may be taken away again by the owners. One of the elephants lost a calf recently and has adopted the youngest elephant here but if the owners reclaim them they will be separated 😭😭😭

    February 20, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Swimming, sunning and lunch at Nana's (next door on the beach)

  • Last night in Thailand

    February 20, 2024 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Worst meal so far but hey ho lovely waiter from Myanmar who doesn't speak Thai & they served us a nice bottle of cold Aussie white wine with some ice & couple of sodas ...a bit of random window shopping and we found the equal opportunity matching ashtray to the one at the floating market and Sarah tried to take her tie-dye obsession to new limits but was vetoed by me (& Chris at home)
Then on to our fave bar in the village - lovely cocktails, then Sarah wanted another & who was I to say no?
Then we headed back to hotel but stopped at a other bar which was always busy. Rock music sound track and the first seriously strong cocktails. A fellow limped over to us and turned out to be the owner, quite disabled but very enabled & proud of his bar. Sarah chose an ice bear which obvs appealed to me till I saw the 6 alcoholic ingredients & no mention of a mixer....I took a safter option of a Pina colada. Another round at Sarah's suggestion & I then carried her back to hotel room where we talked bollocks till about 2am.
Another lovely lovely day in paradise....
