• Ghibli Roadshow

    19 september 2024, Japan ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

Leaving a bit of time for adlib in the itinerary has led to pleasant surprises. This time, it was for a Studio Ghibli Roadshow at the Hiroshima Art Museum. It had basically zero details online, but it was cheap and I love anything related to Studio Ghibli so I gave it a shot. The exhibit was quite large and was produced by the cable distributor that played Ghibli on Japanese TV for decades. The first half of the exhibit was a chronologically laid out history of the Studio with storyboard sketches from every single Ghibli movie. But, no photographs or phone use allowed (including translate apps) and it was solely in Japanese. Still loved seeing the storyboards though! The second portion started with a beautiful spinning nighlight/art piece that was lined with stain-glass artwork and projected moving ghibli characters to a coordinated soundtrack. Next was truly surprising; lifesize bugs from Nausicaa! Creepy and intricately crafted from an underrated classic (I need to get around to reading the manga...). And lastly, life sized Ghibli
Movie poster photo ops. I hammed it up and gave it my all.
Even without being able to read anything, I had a lovely time here; such a fitting example of how art is borderless and can be enjoyed by all.
