While seeing Toyota was my first pick (they stopped tours post-covid), I was excited to tour the Mazda Museum. Specifically, I love How It's Made and was hoping to see that in person at a legendary Japanese auto house. The tour ended up not quite as build focused as my engineering side hoped, but it was a fascinating history lesson about a company I didn't know much on. Mazda has a more storied past that I realized, starting with their first trike (with a Mazda and Mistubishi logo!) to their new Kodo design mantra and dedication to making driving enjoyable. If I sound like an ad for them, I think it's because their tour worked. I also may have a soft spot as my dad used to drive a Mazda "this car isn't the greatest car in the world, it's only a Tribute".
That evening, I sought out a random bouldering gym. It's a niche hobby (well, unless you live near Boulder) in a foreign country; figured it would be an interesting time. I found PB Climbing and headed there. I'm not sure it's "lead" or "peanut butter" for PB, and it's too late to ask now. The owner of the gym signed me in, gave me the largest shoes he had, and I settled in for a nice climbing session with him and two other dudes. One of them was working a new problem and he and I kept going back and forth figuring it out until we both got it. Lots of "ganba's" all around (Japanese for "come on!"). They were super chill and even helped me with some of my Japanese.
