  • First stages

    May 24 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

Matosinhos → Vila do Conde → Esposende

57 km in 3 days - easing into the Camino rhythm, step by step.

Morning sea mist, long stretches of boardwalks, dunes, cobblestones, and sand. The coastal sun burns through by noon, and those cool breezes feel like a blessing. Trees are rare out here, so shade becomes its own kind of treasure.

Loving the flow of beach towns, the steady horizon, and the mix of pilgrims from all over the world finding their pace, many walking this shorter route for the first time.

    Buen Camino to us all.

  • Strolling up the Portuguese coastline

    May 24 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

A collage of scenes of the coastline and the a few garden lined villages heading north to Viana do Castelo, marking our fifth day on the Camino.

Boardwalks, sandy dunes, rocky stretches, and miles of cobblestones under a steady heatwave. Seeing more pilgrims as we get further away from Porto and closer to Spain. A man working in his garden motioned for me to enter his beautiful courtyard to pick fresh berries of his tree to share. The Camino provides.

The Atlantic beside us to our left the whole way, offering just enough breeze to keep us moving. Small beach towns, long promenades, and a few shaded rest spots. By the time we reached Viana do Castelo, sun‑tired and happy, it felt like the perfect place to stop, rest, and take in how far we’d already come.
