Our drive from Meteora to Ioannina over the Pindus mountain range was hair raising. Tight winding roads in thick fog and difficult to see cars in front. Once we reached the summit (about 1,800 metres) we were able to rejoin the freeway and drive to Ioannina for the most part through a series of long tunnels. Ioannina is on a pretty lake with a mountainous back drop but was entirely shrouded in clouds until the final morning. We took the ferry to the little island off the city. It has a population of 200, no cars and 6 monasteries but heavy downpours curtailed our exploration. So it was back home with wet clothes and saturated shoes (again).
