• Hiking in Royal National Park

    March 15 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

After two weeks in Sydney, I needed to escape the city and ideally spot some kangaroos. I did some research, and Perplexity recommended Royal National Park, which apparently had a medium to high chance of seeing them.
So I got up early as kangaroos are best spotted at dawn, rented a car, and drove forty kilometres south. I stopped for a lovely breakfast in a small town along the way, then continued into the park. When I arrived at the main spot, I met a ranger named Matt who told me there is a ZERO chance of seeing Kangaroos, as they were pushed out by some deer which were introduced into the area a long time ago.
But the walk itself was stunning, winding through bushland and along dramatic coastal cliffs with beautiful ocean views. I spotted some lizards and various birds instead.
Also interesting, there are drone pilots who scan for sharks and use speakers to warn swimmers and surfers when they're nearby.
