Touristy stuff in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

    September 6, 2017 in Cambodia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia yesterday morning .. braved it out on the street for a quick walk to find some lunch, but chickened out on trying the street food, did manage to cross the road a couple of times & survived, those who have been here will understand that!! The roads are so full of traffic, predominantly motor bikes & no one follows the rules, but as our guide told us - they drive from their heart (...amazingly it works!). Had an amazing full body massage at the hotel in the afternoon. Met our 7 other travelling companions in the evening, 3 other kiwis, 2 Aussies & two from the US. Today we started on a cyclo ride to the local markets, then to S21 detention centre & the killing fields (very somber & heart wrenching), its clear to see why Cambodian people are so humble given their sad political history. After a lovely Yellow curry for lunch, a visit to the Royal palace, however the king was out for the day ... needed a cold shower after melting in 34 deg heat. A cruise on Tonle Sap river before dinner riverside (Stir fried water buffalo) ... 4 of us braved it to the night markets for a looksee, then a tuk tuk home ... enjoying keeping hydrated on the local Angkor beer!!!Read more
