Kulen Mountain

Today's adventures took us up Kulen Mountain. It's a place of stunning natural beauty, and also of historical significance: in 802, King Jayavarman II proclaimed independence in this area from Java and later  Udayaditavarman II made it the capital of the empire, constructing many temples and residences. We visited the reclining Buddha, which is an 8m long statue carved out of a single large sandstone rock. Estimates are that it was carved in the 16th century. We then visited Kulen waterfall, which was in full fury after this morning's deluge. It was a great day also meeting interesting people from Belgium, Malaysia and Nashville USA.Читать далее
