Valley of Fire State park

Today we headed over to Valley of fire State park located approximately 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Covering nearly 46,000 acres, it is renowned for its vibrant red sandstone formations, which create a breathtaking landscape.

Boy, I thought the red colors in Sedona were fantastic but this state park is beyond beautiful as far as colors go. The pictures will not do it justice.

As we entered the park, we saw several desert bighorn sheep. We drove to the back of the park where we hiked three trails that we combined into one big trail. This area reminds us a lot of arches national Park because you climb over a lot of sandstone. But we also walked through a lot of sand washes and slot canyons. We had to really pay attention to where we were going on the trails because they were not well marked and when you did find a marker, it was the same color as the rocks so it blended in.
