• Red rock canyon

Today we headed to the west side of Las Vegas to visit and hike in the red rock canyons area. This is part of the national Park service and requires a time entry. But I’m not sure why because it was not as busy as it was at Valley of fire State Park, and not nearly as impressive.

We did a 2.4 mile hike on the calico tanks trail. We saw some red rocks, but mostly it was a bit of a rock scramble to the top where there was a small pond, believe it or not, in the desert.

Once you get to the water, you have to cross a small ledge and climb to the top of the rocks to get a stunning view of the Las Vegas Valley. I chickened out and didn’t cross the ledge, but Mike did and took some awesome pictures from the top.
