    South Point - arrival

    February 28 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

Arrived after a good flight to a warm and breezy Antigua. We picked up the hire car and headed 45 min south. No road names or signposts!! Only 3G on the phone so relied on a small tourist map.
Apartment is amazing and has a natural breeze through the louvres. The super yachts right in front of us are huge! We wandered to the local supermarket for essentials, a romaine lettuce was only slightly cheaper than a bottle of rum!! Chris’s take on essentials therefore validated 😆

  • Pigeon Point beach

    March 1 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

An early morning to see the sunrise followed by a leisurely breakfast and a short walk to Pigeon Point beach.

Great to watch the super-yachts come and go along the channel right in front of us.

Being a Sunday, it soon got busy and we had been in the sun long enough, so we wandered back to the marina for a quick burrito at the yacht club before chilling on the balcony.

  • Devil’s Bridge

    March 2 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Feeling properly rested, we grabbed our beach gear and jumped in the car heading for Devil’s Bridge.

The roads in Antigua range from smooth blacktop to rough rock and we experienced everything heading out to the east coast.

It was a windy day which made the sea conditions even more spectacular as the waves lashed the rocks and sent great plumes of spray up and over Devil’s Bridge.

To look out at the ocean towards Africa and think this is where the Atlantic rowers arrive is astounding!

  • Long Bay beach

    March 3 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

Five minutes from Devil’s Bridge we arrived at Long Bay and grabbed a shady spot under a tree on the beach.

Pineapple Beach Club hotel is at one end of the beach, with its wedding gazebo high up on the cliff top above the beach.

Beautiful white sand and turquoise waters on a relatively small, curved bay make this a picture-perfect Caribbean paradise.

We enjoyed lunch at the beach restaurant - Tracy had a spicy fish burger and Chris had the jerk chicken - both delicious.

We took the coastal route back, seeing some lovely views and villas.

  • Galleon Beach

    March 3 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Another local beach today, only 10 minutes in the car,
Galleon beach is at the entrance to English Harbour. A lovely bay with yachts moored. Shade was found to while away a couple of hours.
We came back and went to the local Mexican restaurant for lunch and cocktails, very agreeable. Then got very hot walking back so went straight to the pool.
Chris is loving watching the super yachts and reading up about them.

  • Valley Church Beach

    March 4 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

It had rained heavily overnight and the skies were overcast this morning. Today we wandered the coast road to the west side of the island. Fantastic views and some great beaches.
We went to Jolly Harbour to scout it out. A smaller version of our harbour, without the super yachts, but it had a supermarket stocking Waitrose Own goods!!
We drove back to Valley Church Beach as access to Jolly Harbour beach was shut for construction. Big beach virtually to ourselves, bliss … then 3 party catamarans arrived from the cruise ships!!!!!
After a few hours we went for lunch back at Jolly Harbour then headed home.

  • Nelson’s Dockyard

    March 5 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Following rain overnight and as no cruise ships were in port today, we decided to visit Nelson’s Dockyard which was just around the corner.
Lovely setting and great to see so many of the original buildings in use. Museum was very informative too. Very quiet due to no cruise crowds, which was great.Read more

  • Jolly Harbour, St John’s and back!

    March 7 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Well we decided to take the long way to the airport. Via the coast and a coffee stop at Jolly Harbour.
We then went to St John’s to see the Recreation Ground (the original cricket ground) which is currently under going renovation. Then a scenic coast stop for a snack lunch.
Not everything went to plan as our flight was cancelled so we ended up back at our apartment( I knew it was empty). Bonus was dinner at Maia restaurant. We are now booked on tomorrow’s flight.
