    Honfleur

    September 7, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Uneventful Chunnel crossing, arrived in Calais and an easy drive down to Honfleur. The main Aire was full so parked in a small carpark. We had a quick walk into town before the rain. It was persistent rain when we woke up so we swiftly packed and left. Good job we have been there before.Read more

  • Le Mans

    September 8, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Arrived and got a spot in the Aire by the old city walls. Walked up the steep ramparts to find a lovely lunch in the town square. Lovely medieval grid. Got rather wet so back to the van to dry off!

  • La Rochelle Port Neuf

    September 9, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

Arrived here to sunshine but it did not last long! Lovely Aire with trees for shade (not needed). Took the scenic route into town via the lovely promenade. Found a restaurant near the harbour for a fishy tea!Read more

  • La Rochelle

    September 11, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Well it appears that unless your dog is no heavier than 5kg and can go in a bag, it isn’t allowed on the bus! A gentle walk into town and a good wander around in warmer and sunnier conditions. Lovely streets and contrasts in architecture. Picked up some beans and potatoes from the market to accompany lamb shawarma and a lovely bottle of Fitou.Read more

  • La Flotte

    September 11, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Arrived in La Flotte to light rain! After tea we went for a gentle wander to the harbour. Coats were needed as North wind, but still managed an ice cream by the lighthouse.
This morning we went to the lovely medieval market place. So many temptations, we succumbed to a bagful of treats!Read more

  • St Martin

    September 12, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We cycled to St Martin this afternoon, lovely in the sunshine and Winston’s first outing in the backpack. It is bigger than La Flotte and there were lots of people milling around. An art exhibition included strange figures hanging from wires!Read more

  • St Martin-2

    September 14, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

We cycled to St Martin and parked outside the town to let Winston have a run on the beach. There was a swim-run race on, so town was busy. We had lunch overlooking the harbour. When we got back Tracy went for a swim, the pool is lovely and warm but the north wind!!!Read more

  • La Flotte

  • Dinan

    September 16, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

A reasonable drive today as we left the beautiful Ile de Re behind and made our way north to Dinan. We have seen several wide loads and a catamaran was no exception! Just a gentle stroll into this wonderful town in early evening and back to the van for tea.Read more

  • Dinan Port

    September 17, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

What a lovely riverside port with an old bridge and a viaduct. Very steep climb back up to town for a delicious lunch.

  • Lehon

A gentle wander down through the woods from the campsite brought us to Lehon. A lovely spot by the river including an abbey, lock and lock keeper’s cottage.

  • Honfleur

Back to Honfleur, this time in warm sunshine! First stop for Winston was the vet so he can come home.
Lovely meander around the streets, a coffee and some window shopping.

  • Saint-Valery-sur-Somme

    September 19, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

Arrived at our last stop at the pretty town of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme on the estuary. Wandered down the river and back, saw the steam train and had a lovely ice cream before heading back to the van for a cuppa and relaxing in the warm sunshine. Will explore the rest of town tomorrow.Read more

  • Cap Hornu and lunch

    September 20, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Walked up to Chapelle des Marins (note the hanging boats!), from where there was a lovely view of Cap Hornu. Then down to the beach for a coffee and our anniversary lunch 🥰

  • Medieval grid

    September 20, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

The medieval grid sits high above the town and port. Joan of Arc was held prisoner here in 1430. Lots of other history and interesting buildings.
