    July 5, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

An easy drive down to Southampton, an hour or so to handover the car and get on board. Then the surprise for Chris! Doug and Joan were waiting in the bar, so another fabulous holiday to enjoy with good friends.Read more

  • Sea day

    July 6, 2025 in England ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

This is the biggest ship we have been on but Iona is lovely and spacious. Joan and I joined the choir for a sing this morning then we all had a talk on Norway in the afternoon. The food is excellent, we went to the Chef’s table tonight. We spent a leisurely day on the ship and soaked up the formal evening.Read more

  • Stavanger harbour

    July 7, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Light rain greeted us in port, but that wasn’t going to stop us wandering around Norway’s richest city and home to its oil industry. A lovely old town right by the harbour and lots of interesting murals and sculptures. In the afternoon we had an excellent boat trip along Lysefjord.Read more

  • Lysefjord cruise

    July 7, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

We set out into the fjord on a very smart cruiser. We went past islands, ex-copper mines, goats, waterfalls and the main event Pulpit Rock!! Well we assume it was up there as the cloud was too low for us to see the summit. A fabulous introduction to this wonderful landscape.Read more

  • Old Stavanger

    July 7, 2025 in Norway ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

After our Lysefjord cruise we wandered around old Stavanger. We saw the petroleum and canning museums but didn’t have time to go in either; maybe when we tour Norway in our motorhome! Then up to the cathedral and round some lovely shops. Dinner was in the Mexican restaurant, again lovely food.Read more

  • Cruising Nordfjord

    July 8, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

An early start (4.15am) by Chris to watch our journey along Nordfjord from the sea to the end at Olden. It took four hours but the early start was certainly worth it for stunning scenery as the sun rose over the surrounding mountains.Read more

  • Olden - Loen sky lift

    July 8, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

A short bus ride to the Loen sky lift. We queued for an hour before the short ride to the top on Europe’s second steepest cable car. The views of the fjord, like, valley and mountains were absolutely spectacular!Read more

  • Briksdal glacier

    July 8, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

After a quick lunch back on board, we were out again for the coach trip to Briksdal glacier, part of the largest glacier in Europe. We were lucky that we had “troll” cars to take us to the top, past a huge waterfall and lots of spray!! Then a short walk to the lake at the foot of the glacier. The ice has been receding over the last hundred or so years, but in places is upto 600m thick! We bumped into Sue and Dave at the lake, who had hiked up!Read more

  • Hellesylt

    July 9, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

After a longer night’s sleep, we woke up moored in Hellesylt right opposite the waterfall. A leisurely breakfast and quick wander around this very small town before catching the catamaran along Geiranger Fjord.Read more

  • Geiranger fjord cruise

    July 9, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Onto the catamaran and straight upstairs to the open deck for a wonderful cruise along one of the most famous and beautiful fjords. We saw many soaring peaks and waterfalls as well as some very remote buildings, including Sara’s family farm high up in the mountains opposite Seven Sisters waterfall. Then it was off to wander around Geiranger.Read more

  • Geiranger

    July 9, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Pulling in to the dock at Geiranger, the harbour was dominated by the NCL Prima! Right next to the harbour was a large campsite, so we popped in to grab a site map! There wasn’t much at ground level, because the real beauty is much higher up. We climbed up 90 metres alongside a majestic waterfall and reached the World Heritage Fjordlands Centre, where we had lovely traditional waffles and coffee before the return to the boat back to Hellesylt. The sun shone on another wonderful day in this most magical of places!Read more

  • Haugesund part 1

    July 10, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Docked at 7.30am on a grey and cool morning. Thankfully the weather brightened and warmed up for our whistle stop coach tour around Karmoy island. First up was the copper mine at Visnes, where we walked up to the doll’s house for views over the coast. Then it was on to a lovely horseshoe beach at Akrasanden.Read more

  • Haugesund part 2

    July 10, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

After the beach we headed for the southern tip of the island at Skudeneshavn, a pretty white boarded village, with a moonstone that isn’t native to the area! We sought out a lovely old style cafe for waffles and coffee. Then it was on to the final stop at St Olaf’s church where there are Viking burial mounds and an odd stone that leans towards the church - the local legend says that if the stone ever touches the church then it will be doomsday for the world! Luckily we have 9cm left…Read more

  • Haugesund part 3

    July 10, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Finally we wandered around Haugesund town centre, down to the waterfront then up and over the big bridge, past the old shipyard that now builds and repairs wind turbines and various sea rigs, and eventually back onboard just in time to depart as the fog rolled in…Read more
