• Winery, halloumi tasting & monastery

    April 20 in Cyprus ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Feeling brave, we booked ourselves onto a tour. We had a private trip with our own guide and the first stop was a winery, where we were shown around before tasting some of the wines. We weren’t sure what to expect as we hadn’t drunk a decent Cypriot wine so far but we needn’t have worried because they were all lovely.

Next we were off to taste some halloumi from a local producer. I expected to see some goats and learn a bit about it, but we were just shown into a barn where there was a table set for us to try some of the cheeses (along with some mouldy bread) and left to get on with it! After we had eaten as much as we could, the owner did show us where she makes the cheeses and explained how she does it, which was interesting.

The last stop was a monastery, high up in the hills. We got to see lots more amazing scenery and the views from the monastery were spectacular (although it was very cold up there!)
