We arrived in NYC back on Thursday and wouldn't you know it...our hotel we booked was closed! So after arranging some alternative accommodation for the week we settled in and over the last two days we have caught up with Sam and Nick. Myself and Nick checked out the Intrepid museum while Kylie and Sam did a Sex and the city walking tour. Met up at Old Mates pub then walked Brooklyn Bridge to Dumbo. Last night we saw a Broadway theatre show called Art. Today we went up the Empire State building and walked the Highline in the afternoon. Lots of walking and lots of money spent!Read more

It was a bumpy flight to Vancouver, then landed in sunny hot Chicago. Catching the train into downtown was like being on an old red rattler train . It was fast and it was rocking all over the place

This morning we strolled along the Chicago river walk, then caught the train up to Wrigley field to watch the Chicago Cubs play the St Louis Cardinals in the Major League Baseball series. That was a lot of fun and an amazing atmosphere and to top it off the Cubs won 2-0! This evening we went down to try a classic Chicago cuisine, the 'deep dish pizza'. Tomorrow we hit the road up to Milwaukee to check out the Harley Davidson museum.Read more

Hired a car to drive to Milwaukee to visit the Harley Davidson museum. Huge collection of historic motorcycles and some modern examples as well. You don't need to be into motorbikes to appreciate the stories behind all of the models on display. Back to Chicago and it was time to go and see a favourite 90's band 'Garbage'. What an awesome gig!Read more

Architecture in Chicago

Today, we took a boat ride along the Chicago River for an architecture tour. we continued exploring on foot, enjoying our own walking architecture tour, and taking in even more sights. We ended the day with cocktails at a fabulous bar, a visit to the Skydeck, and a wonderful meal followed by late-night drinks and singing a long at the Redhead Piano Bar.Read more

Our last full day in Chicago and it did not disappoint! In the morning we went to see the bean (cloud gate). Not sure of it's purpose but hey, if you build it people will come. After that we wandered around millenium park lakeside trail then onto the Art Institute of Chicago where we saw so many works from artists including Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Renoir and more....We then boarded a cruise to lake Michigan for sunset then made our way to a jazz bar for the evening. Thank you Chicago it's been amazing and we will be back again! We're off to New York tomorrow!!!Read more

Yesterday we caught the free Staten Island ferry from lower Manhattan to get some great views of the Statue of Liberty. We took a walk down Wall street to the New York stock exchange building. Around the corner from there we visited the Trinity Cathedral where Alexander Hamilton is buried. From there we went up to Chinatown to sample some delicious dumplings then back down to Brooklyn bridge piers to catch a sunset cruise of Hudson River which passed by the Statue of Liberty and around Manhattan and under some of its many bridges.Read more

Ben dragged me up to the summit. I stayed very close to the wall...And we checked out Grand Central Station and enjoyed cocktails at the Campbell Bar.

Last day in NYC

Today we went to the 9/11 memorial, checked out the Occulus building, then made our way to the lower East side for lunch at the famous Katz's deli. After consuming copious amounts of pastrami and corned beef, we walked some of it off making our way to Little Italy then stumling across the building used in Ghostbusters before eventually landing at Marie's Crisis for a drink and piano sing along. Tomorrow we're on the Amtrak to Boston!Read more

We arrived in Boston yesterday and today we caught the train up to Salem, a town about a half hour away and the location of the witch trials that occurred in the late 17th century. The town is a buzz at this time of year as Halloween is only a couple of weeks away. So many people and so many Halloween decorations and costumes.Read more

Today we visited the Boston tea party museum which included an interactive tour of a replica ship used to import tea into Massachusetts back in the 18th century. This was the scene which played host to the events that kick-started the American revolution against the British. After this we walked along the green way from south end to north end where we sampled a Boston must have - freshly made cannolis....yum! After exploring the north end we made our way down to Boston common and then found the Cheers bar where we enjoyed a drink or two before heading back to our accommodation in the Fenway area.Read more

Today we took the train up to Cambridge to check out Harvard University where they were celebrating Oktoberfest. It's not the normal Oktoberfest we're accustomed to. Held in and around Harvard square, there were market stalls everywhere, live music and the annual Honk parade. Many brass bands parading through the streets. Afterwards, we went back to check out the Back Bay area. A very ritzy part of Boston. Tomorrow we're back on a road trip all day to Niagara Falls.Read more

Yesterday we spent all day on the road before crossing the Canadian border to Niagara Falls. Today we checked out the falls from the Canadian side, took a boat trip to get up really close, and then explored the nearby area of Clifton Hill. Clifton Hill is an odd place. It's kind of theme park, toon townish. They call it a 'fun street'. Not really in keeping with the natural beauty of the water falls.Read more

Detroit

Today we left Niagara Falls and made our way to Detroit.... getting closer to Chicago where our trip will end. On our way we stopped at Cleveland and picked up some lunch from the west end markets. These markets are set in an amazing old building that resembles an old railway terminal. When we arrived in Detroit we visited the Motown museum. A fantastic experience especially being inside the old recording studios where the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and the Supremes went about their work. After this we made our way downtown for dinner at Eminem's restaurant Mom's Spaghetti. Tomorrow we head back to Chicago for our last night of our tour, and drop into the Henry Ford museum on the way.Read more

Last day.

Today we drove from Detroit back to where we started our trip in Chicago. On the way we stopped at the Henry Ford Museum and then onto a place called Kalamazoo ( it's claim to fame is the birthplace of Gibson guitars). Tomorrow we fly home so this will be our last finding penguins post until our next adventure.....whenever and wherever that is. Hope you enjoyed.Read more
