Last summer when Anna and I came to London, we had a full day with Caroline and Isabel McDowell, cementing a strong friendship. We have loved staying in touch all year. They braved strikes on theLäs mer
ResenärCorrection...they did a 'field teach and learn' day! We discussed why the British Pound is called a 'quid' (wikipedia says it may be rooted in latin and 'quid pro quo'), we learned that the plural of penny is 'pence', and we learned that kids from the US would get crushed in spelling bees here...Gloucester (pronounced 'gloster') and Leicester (pronouced 'lester') would be send american kids back to their seats. On the culinary front, we learned that a common breakfast here is 'beans and toast' and a favorite pancake topping is beans (both beans of the baked variety). Have to give that a try some time I guess...
