    29. april 2018, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

This is another UNESCO town in the Alentejo. It has a star-shaped city wall that you can walk around and it is the biggest fortified city in Europe. There are two smaller forts facing each other on the surrounding hills and smaller ones scattered around. As it is directly on the border to Spain - around 20kms - it was quite easy to spot any activity coming from Spain and controlling the road from Madrid to Lisbon. It also has an impressive aqueduct that makes you feel like an ant next to an elephant. In Alentejo, try all the food they have to offer you! All is excellent!Læs mere

  • Évora

    29. april 2018, Portugal ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

In Évora - a UNESCO city - we stayed outside the city wall near the tranquil 19th-century public garden with statues, historic ruins & roaming peacocks. There are a number of restaurants and pubs in the historic centre where you can feel the Roman ambience mixed with the whiteness of the Arabic influence that lets the coolness invade the houses during summertime. You can visit the Temple of Diana, the Sé (cathedral) and the Bones Chapel - creepy!!! The Megalithic remains around the city are also a must and the springtime landscape in Alentejo is absolutely outstanding!Læs mere

  • Alqueva and Monsaraz

    28. april 2018, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Alqueva is the biggest artificial lake in the Iberian Peninsula. It is a dam for electricity production and farming irrigation. The construction of the dam changed the landscape of this area for in the past there were long periods of drought. Nowadays you can spot all types of birds.

As for Monsaraz, it is a fairy tale village inside a fortified wall where all houses are painted in white and yellow. It keeps the traditional appearance and you can visit the castle and walk around the wall looking afar at the immense plains and the dam that covers a large area of the landscape. Don’t forget to buy a bottle of Ervideira late harvest on your way out!

Get to the city centre of Munich with Marienplatz - the central plaza - or the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl - the famous pub for drinking Maß and enjoy the ambience of Oktober Fest any time of the year. As for the Viktualienmarkt, located some steps away from Marienplatz, if you are lucky enough to have nice weather, you can appreciate Munich street food and check exactly where it comes from because you are surrounded by the vegetable stands as well as the butchers that supply the market eating area. The permanent Maypole tells the story of beer in the city and decorates the centre of the market. At night you can walk around and you will always find a place to drink a beer or to eat a sausage and you can even go aboard the Cocktail Tram...Læs mere

  • Salzburg

    5. april 2018, Østrig ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Salzburg is a magnificent city that has so much to offer. It was impossible to visit all, but we tried our best. Before we got into the city we first visited Red Bull's owner hobby hall in Hangar 7 - his collection of planes and F1 cars is amazing. The following day we started by visiting Hohensalzburg Castle - dating from 1077 - on top of the Festungsberg. After a stop for a Leberkäse, we entered the amazing cathedral and moved on to the pedestrian area - Getreidegasse - where you can see, along with the great international brands, fancy shops to buy a "Dirndl" or a "Lederhosen" - the traditional Austrian clothes. We passed by Mozart's birthplace house and visited the house where he lived till he moved to Vienna. The Mirabell Palace with its incredible gardens were on the way to the so expected Sacher Torte which was the highlight of our afternoon at the Sacher Café in the Sacher Hotel. The day ended with a special dinner at St. Peter Stiftskulinarium restaurant with a Mozart dinner concert - simply splendid!!! Goosebumps come to you when you first start listening to the singers!Læs mere

  • Innsbruck

    4. april 2018, Østrig ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Swarovsky exhibition, in Wattens, and the Jumping Hill, in Innsbruck, are spots that you shouldn't miss in this journey from the west heading to Salzburg. The crystal world underground, or outside in the open air, will take your breath away and the "ahs" and "ohs" will come one after the other. As for the jumping hill, no matter how many times you watched it on television, the feeling of craziness and gravity-defying will make you feel totally flabbergasted. Only insane people can do it! I wouldn't do it for sure!Læs mere

  • Füssen

    3. april 2018, Tyskland ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Füssen is a German town near the border to Austria. The city centre is full of life and you can hang on trying "snowballs" - a cookie amalgama - or drinking a beer while you eat cheese soup or liver dumplings. But the Bavarian town is most known because of the castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau that lie southeast of the town. They were both the creation of a lunatic King Ludwig and Neuschwanstein was an inspiration to Disneyworld castle.Læs mere

  • Feldkirch

    2. april 2018, Østrig ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

James Bond's movie "Quantum of Solace" took scene here. For only a few seconds there is a chasing scene on this precise street in Feldkirch. A traditional street where street coffee houses are spread, even in cold weather. It is a small city, full of charm and traditional ambience. You can easily go on foot from the city centre to the Schattenburg Castle to have a nice view of the city and eat the biggest schnitzel in this area (30 cm) in the Castle Restaurant.Læs mere

The Zeppelin Museum and the zeppelins floating up in the sky take you back to the end of WWII. All you need to know about it and a bit of the history of aviation you can have it here. The interactive exhibition makes it also a fun place for children to learn a bit about aerodynamics. You can also take your time to stroll a bit along the pier or drive to Lindau - also a nice little city.Læs mere

  • Bregenz

    30. marts 2018, Østrig ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Beautiful Lake Constance is surrounded by amazing points of interest.
The Bildstein Church has a stunning view of the Lake and the Swiss Alps.
The Library - formerly a monastery - is above the city of Bregenz and, again, you can have a perfect view of the lake. If you get lucky you can even spot a zeppelin silently floating up in the air coming from Friedrichshafen - the German shore of the Lake.
Walking the streets of the city centre, the Bavarian way of decorating the houses has a strong influence. When you stroll along the shoreline of the Lake, just across the city centre, you can find the site for the Bregenz Festival with the giant floating stage getting ready for this year’s opera - Carmem.

  • Horta

    11. marts 2018, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

We thought about visiting Pico on the 2nd day but the weather conditions weren't favourable and the Port in Pico was closed... Maybe next time we can go there as well as to São Jorge. Anyway, we could still go a bit further around Faial and had a nice lunch in Cedros. Before lunch, we still had time to go to the natural pools in Varadouro. The afternoon was to relax and get ready to make the last stop for me - Peter's café. It was nice to meet such a lot of different people coming from all over the world. There was a regatta and 18 sailboats had reached the port in Horta. It was a loud merry environment where a lot of languages could be heard. Nice weekend!Læs mere

  • Vulcão dos Capelinhos

    10. marts 2018, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

In Faial you can visit a lot of spots related to volcanoes because it was how the island was formed. It is 21 km in length and 14 km at the maximum width and it looks like a pentagon. The island is part of the Central Group and is the westernmost corner of the so-called “Triangle Islands”, which also include São Jorge and Pico, the latter just 6 km away from Faial. From Horta you can see the highest mountain in Portugal - Pico.
On this first day we could visit the Caldeira, with its ice-cold wind, Praia do Almoxarife, Monte da Guia, Porto Pim, Horta Marina, the Capelinhos Vulcano and the Espalamaca viewpoint.

  • Podence

    13. februar 2018, Portugal ⋅ 🌧 5 °C

Now we finally are in Podence. It is near Macedo de Cavaleiros, deep into the inner region of Trás-os-Montes. You can park your car near the street where all happens. It was extremely cold and I have to tell you that if you decide to stay for the burning of the huge Careto that happens at dusk, you should really have warm clothes. A woollen cap is mandatory!
As for Caretos, they carry bells and cowbells around their waist, and energetically run around the village, jumping and shouting, disturbing the daily calm. One of the main reasons for these races is to find girls in order to dance with them and "chocalhar" (jingle their cow-bells). This is fun, but at the same time, a bit discomforting.

  • Pueblo Sanábria

    13. februar 2018, Spanien ⋅ ❄️ 0 °C

Pueblo de Sanábria is a small stone village in Spain, near the border with Portugal. It is high and this morning we decided to visit it and take some time to fill our tank with gasoline. It is much cheaper in Spain than in Portugal. It was so cold that morning... Actually when we got up that morning the castle in Bragança had some vestiges of snow. On the way to Sanabria, it was a bit more. It was a "white way". The village is special in its quietness and simplicity. We had fun, though.Læs mere

  • Bragança

    12. februar 2018, Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

We stayed in Bragança and before dinner we still had time to go to the medieval castle where we met our first Facanito, a Caretos boy. From its walls, one can see the mountains of Montesinho to the north and Sanabria to the west. This district is directly on the border with Spain. But Sanabria was for the following morning. In the late evening, we could still go to a Celtic bar for a beer near the open fireplace. It is so that in February the days are very cold in this area.Læs mere

  • Viseu

    12. februar 2018, Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 7 °C

We decided to start our journey from Aveiro heading to Viseu. The historical centre of the city is beautiful and well kept. It was settled during the period of the early Iberian castro culture. The territory of Viseu was populated by a series of cultures, that include the Romans, Suebs, Visigoths and Moors. During the Roman occupation of Iberia, Viriathus, the rebel leader of the Lusitanians, is assumed to have lived for a time in the territory.Læs mere

  • Dubrovnik

    1. januar 2018, Kroatien ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

This was really a special place. It was a pity that not all of us were fit, but, nevertheless, it was possible to feel the ambience of the city, wandering around its narrow streets, drinking hot tea in a fancy hotel in the city centre or even taste the hot wine on the street market.

With its sublime location, overlooking the calm blue waters of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik is one of the world’s most magnificent walled cities. Now a Unesco world heritage site and Croatia’s most up-market destination, it was once the capital of the wealthy sea-faring Republic of Ragusa (1358-1808).

The Game of Thrones television series and the Star Wars: Episode VIII film were both shot here, while the Robin Hood: Origins film has also been in the making here.

  • Kotor

    1. januar 2018, Montenegro ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Kotor has the amazing fjord. It was my first time in a fjord and I wasn't expecting this landscape. I was absolutely amazed at the beauty of the place and the city too.

It is also an old city and it is hemmed in by staunch walls snaking improbably up the surrounding slopes. The town is a medieval maze of museums, churches, cafe-strewn squares and Venetian palaces and pillories.

There is a funny thing going on in the city... It is a cats' city. You can find them all over and people feed them. There are even magnets and pins with them... It is said that they are protectors of the city. So, let them be.
