  • Nachos chilenos

    June 28, 2018 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

So... These are nachos in Chile. The are made with flaky crust. Lol... I don't recommend them but I'm glad I tried them.

  • Debate...PenPals

    June 29, 2018 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Here's a photo of our PenPals at their English Opens Doors competition. It's a debate- in English on the topic: Women working outside of the home has negatively impacted the family dynamic. Schools were assigned a position. 3 points from finals out of 100. Well done!Read more

I'm not sure if I'll have internet, but I will be out in the desert for a few days... hoping to not get altitude sickness. :) Hoping to get some sky pictures tonight...hopefully the clouds will cooperate.Read more

  • San Pedro de Atacama

    June 30, 2018 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

San Pedro hasn't changed much...still muchos extranjeros y turistas. However, the iglesia isn't blanca anymore. Still fun for recuerdo shopping. Volcan Licanbur is still in the background.

  • Calama...

    July 1, 2018 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

After la Puna, we stayed to rest in Calama for the day. Fui con Kei y su madre al Mall, probe helado sabor con chirimoya y naranja....que rico! Conoci el tio de Ms. Kei. I learned a new card game similar to rummy. I will have to ask about how to spell the name.Read more

  • Pueblo de Salitre: Atacama

    July 2, 2018 in Chile ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

When driving in the Atacama desert, there are literal ghost towns of former mining operations. This one is Pampa Union, after visiting, I later received a book that had the story about a baby from this town. I'll share when I get back.Read more

  • Al correo

    July 4, 2018 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

So went to the post office (el correo) and wow... Never complain about waiting. So when I lived here before I would wait in the velvet-rope line for 15-25 minutes (Once was no wait, once was 45 minutes). This time an hour and 43 minutes!! But, it is more customer-friendly. You take a number and go run errands. I took a number, walked to a airline agency, ordered a plane ticket, walked back through the plaza, talked to a nun, returned to the correo and saw the numbers had progressed 23 since I had left. I went to the biblioteca which was BEAUTIFUL. Looked at art then went back to the correos. I waited, chatted with the guard who was an Uber driver teaching himself English. A Colombian thought I was Chilean and asked me post-office protocol. I explained it and we chatted. In the background there were movie previews on a small TV looping for people to watch while they waited... You know...Chile. :)Read more

  • Escuela Municipal y Almuerzo del Mercado

    July 5, 2018 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

I had the opportunity to visit another school and meet more PenPals. We have big plans for this upcoming year! Afterwards, I went to the market, which has tons of little stalls of restaurants tucked between butcher booths and of course has the best food. Despite the 'hawkers' pitching their eateries, I went to the Sudena on a recommendation. The little stalls are crowded and small with extremely limited seating. Another woman was by herself, and we decided to share a table. Her family is from the south and thiis was "Home cookin'" for her. Guess which plate is mine. :) Souper (jaja) tasty. (Muy rico).Read more

  • Libreria...but en realidad, papeleria

    July 6, 2018 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

This is a paper-good store... you can see all of the items behind the counter. You have to ask the staff to serve you. They add everything up, give you a ticket, you go to the little booth in the back to 'cancelar' your ticket and a third person packages everything for you. However, because Chile is pushing against plastic bags, the third person is becoming obsolete as people bring their own bags.
This is one of my favorite places on the planet... I love Libreria Brasil. :) It is colorful, I love the lighting, and it smells like new crayons and school supplies.
